I'm sorry for the confusion, I should have been more specific. The question was not about whether FTM 2012 can export your file to a GEDCOM file. You can. There are several options for doing this. You can elect to export it as an FTM 16 GEDCOM (this would be the option to use to import the GEDCOM file into FTM 16 or earlier due to the difference in handling the Comment/Place information. The other option is to export the file as a GEDCOM 5.5 file. What I said was in relation to the question of using FTM 2012 to "upload a GEDCOM" file to Ancestry.com. In versions before FTM 2012, you had the ability to upload your file to Ancestry.com. It used a modified GEDCOM file. I say it was modified because it include information about media and so it could upload your media files to the AMT. In FTM 2012, you can share your file by uploading it to Ancestry.com. No idea how the information is transmitted. You don't get an external file. The information is uploaded to Ancestry.com. You can either link the Ancestry Member Tree (AMT) to your PC file or you can elect to not link the two files. Now having said that, you can export your file to a GEDCOM file and then go to Ancestry.com and from that end, you can upload the GEDCOM file. My point is you cannot upload a GEDCOM file directly using FTM 2012. Dose that help answer your concern? Yes BJ it did help to answer my concern until I read your line "My point is you cannot upload a GEDCOM file directly using FTM 2012." then it all went blank. In FTM 2012, there is no option to "upload GEDCOM file" to Ancestry.com. You do have these options: 1. Upload and link your file to Ancestry.com 2. Upload but do not link your file to Ancestry.com Neither of these options use a GEDCOM file. In FTM 2012, you have the option to use File, Export, GEDCOM file. In Ancestry.com, you have the option to "Upload" GEDCOM file. A Gedcom file can be imported into FTM 2012 as a new file and then uploaded and linked.
