My wife has been managing her file on Ancestry.com. She just installed FTM 2012. Is it possible to download and Sync to a file on her computer, or does she have to download, and then upload and sync a new file on Ancestry.com? John & Kathleen
> My wife has been managing her file on Ancestry.com. She just installed > FTM 2012. Is it possible to download and Sync to a file on her computer, or does she have to download, and then upload and sync a new file on Ancestry.com? It certainly is possible, and easy too. Have her go to the Plan workspace, then New Tree. Select the third round button labeled Download from Ancestry. That searches Ancestry.com for the files of which she is Owner. Choose the correct file, and to the far right she will find the Available Action to be Download. Do so, and FTM 2012 springs into action downloading and linking her Ancestry tree to a new FTM tree on her computer. John Okerson Memphis, TN
My new FTM 2012 software should be here any day now. Looking forward to the new program, and jumping into the learning curve. I'm currently using FTM 16. What I'd like to do is download the FTM 2012 as a separate program, and use both FTM 16 and FTM 2012 as independent programs. Can this be done? If so, how would I do this when I download FTM 2012. Has anyone tried this, and would or could doing this cause me problems, with either the software or my computer. Also, I use the Ancestry.com online back up service for $9.95 a year. Just wondering if I would be able to upload to this service from both FTM 16 and FTM 2012. Thanks, Cindy Whittington Low Millsboro, DE
Cindy, If you mean "Can FTM 2012 be "installed" along side of Version 16, the answer is YES. I have 3 versions of FTM on this machine. When installing 2012, just make sure that it is NOT being installed in the same folder as the version 16 is in. All of the different installs that I have, the install made a different folder for each version. As for the "Ancestry Backup", this is the first I have heard of it. Can you provide a link to the Ancestry.com website that tells us about this?
