John, Yes, FTM 2012 is a 32 bit program, otherwise they would need to two versions (32 and 64) available. With 163 Generations at 20 years for each generation, then that tells me you have entries back at about the time of Christ. What is your earliest date in your data? If you go to the Plan Tab, and in the upper left box, you will see the status of the current file. There is a "More" button and it will tell you more about your file. It may help, if you could kill some of the services running in the back ground. The ones such as iTunes, Live Cam, Real Tek, Smart Defrag, Open Office and Ask Updater. The Adobe Photo Downloader does not need to be running. The Smart RAM may just be one of your problems, I have tried many of the RAM managers since way back when and even in Windows 7, and none of them did any good on my systems. Some of these programs including "Advance System Care" have a "Registry Cleaner" built in and they do more damage than good. The reason that you see some extra RAM, is because FTM is NOT being used, so it will kick lose some RAM for others uses. To use the 16 Gigs, of RAM, you need to be running 64 bit programs. I have seen some machines running 64 versions of the OS and 4 Gigs of RAM that will run faster than those with 8 or 16 Gigs of RAM, when using 32 bit programs. You suggested about the Adobe programs, if you remember you installed 64 bit versions of them for them to run on your 64 bit machine. If you have been following some of the issues with Syncing, you would know that the larger FTM files are having lots of issue. So I would make sure that the "Auto Sync" is turn off and do not even try and use it until your files are at a manageable size.
