I seem to have lost my very old, much loved FTM 2002 software in our recent move and now want to load something basic on my Windows 7 laptop. I bought a really inexpensive FTM 2008 Essential version for XP. FTM tech support blog says it is compatible, but I'm not so sure. Is there a painless way to proceed or am I out of luck (assuming I still cannot find my 2002 version)? Thanks, Ellen
Ellen, Do you remember what Version your (FTM2002) was? There wasn't a FTM2002. FTM2008 will read your FTW file(s) from Version 16 and earlier. Do you have your FTW file(s)? Firstly I don't believe that there is a version of FTM called FTM 2002. FTM 2008 will run in Windows 7 Be aware that FTM 2008 was the first of the new rewrite and had a number of issues There were three service releases added to improve it, but it still had a number of issues. If you do install it, make sure that you go to Help>Check for Updates and install the service release Personally I would not install FTM 2008 but go to FTM 2012 which has about 150 enhancements over FTM 2008 Aftrer you install, update and register FTM 2008, Go to the Plan Workspace, Click on New tree rhen click on the radio button to import from an existing file. Navigate to where you have your "FTM 2002" file saved, it will end in .FTW, and follow the prompts John D -----Original Message----- From: ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ellen Bisson Sent: Thursday, 15 December 2011 3:10 PM To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Subject: [FTM-TECH] Windows 7 I seem to have lost my very old, much loved FTM 2002 software in our recent move and now want to load something basic on my Windows 7 laptop.
