John, For FTM Crashing (2008 - 2011) Please go to the Knowledge Based website: http://ancestry.custhelp.com/ And enter crash into the Keyword Search and click on Search. This will bring up a list of Knowledge Based articles based on your version of Windows. Please follow the instructions, based on your version of Windows. As you go, please make note of what you see, what you did, any error messages, so that IF that article doesn't resolve this, you can post your findings here and we can go from there. If I have this > failure occur again, I will perform you're suggested steps. You meet the recommended hardware requirements for running FTM 2011 from what I see on the FTW website. You might examine how much virtual memory you have configured. If you have enough hard drive space free that you could bump up the virtual memory, it might help. Additionally, starting the program with almost nothing else running would be a help. If you have a smaller file than the one you normally use, you might try that with backup, just in case. If it were my system and I could backup my file using Windows rather than FTM, I could survive there well enough - just my two cents worth.
