After you have copied it into the clipboard, can you paste it into a photo editor such as IrfanView? Sorry but I can't test it right now. Woke up this morning and my right mouse button isn't working. Got to check it out. BJ On 11/30/2011 4:02 AM, John Okerson wrote: >> The only things I can think of are: >> It's not actually one image but more than one? Right now I'm using FTM 16, and waiting for my FTM 2012 to arrive. I want to be able to upload a gedcom without the "notes", can this be done with FTM 2012?? I tried uploading two gedcom's this week, for the first time, and all my notes showed up. If FTM 2012 doesn't allow a gedcom upload excluding the "note section", can someone advise of a program that will allow me to do an upload minus the note section. I used both FTM 16 and Family Tree Builder, neither of those programs have an option to NOT include the note section. Right now, I have 14,000 plus people in my tree, my best guess would be at least half have extensive notes. So, it's not even practical for me to go back and take them out at this point. Thanks, Cindy Low (Cynthia Whittington Low) Millsboro, DE
In FTM 2012 you do not upload a GEDCOM any more. You have the option to Upload your file and Link your PC file to it (this is called Syncing) or you have the option to upload your file without linking it to your PC file. But in both cases, everything in your file is uploaded including any notes. As I said in an earlier message, there is no way to exclude all notes from being uploaded to an Ancestry Member Tree ( AMT) directly from FTM 2012. I have thought of a work around which will do as you want. 1. Using FTM (I used FTM 2012), select File, Export. 2. Identify the individuals to be included in the exported file. 3. Select GEDCOM as the type of export file to be created. 4. Create the GEDCOM file. Now you have a GEDCOM file which has all of your notes. Not what you want so you have to take a few more steps. 5. Use a Word processor application to open the GED file. OpenOffice recognizes it as a text file and will open it even though it still has the GED file extension. If your word processor will not do this, use Windows explorer to rename the file by changing the .GED to .TXT. 6. Use the word processor's Find and Replace. You want to search for @N - this is part of an identifier in the GED which identifies Notes. You want to change it to something else. I replaced it with two underscores, __. This creates a keyword which is not used within GEDCOM standards. 7. Once you have replaced all instances of @N, save the file back to a file with the file extension, .GED. 8. You could now upload that to Ancestry.com and hope that it works. I preferred to import it back into FTM 2012 so I could ensure I got everything. 9. In FTM 2012, create a new file using the GEDCOM file. 10. Review the Import Log. You will see an error for every note. This technique removes all subordinate information in the note record. This includes the contents of the note. 11. Once you are satisfied with the result, you can use FTM 2012 to upload the file as an unlinked tree. Or you can return to Ancestry.com and use its option to upload a GEDCOM file. It seems like a lot of work but it really is relatively easy. I tried the same thing in FTM 2012 and NOTE appeared within the .ged. IF ALL of your Notes were marked as Private, then you could select to NOT have them included, but with 14,000 folks that seems a serious hassle. I have another approach and am evaluating it just now.
