    3. Unfortunately the term "new computer" does not convey any detail about its specs. Bit like saying you have a new car or a new dress. Doesn't convey much useful information But with the size of the database that you are using, I would think you would want more than 4 GB or RAM and an i5 processor or better John D -----Original Message----- From: ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Susan Johanson Sent: Wednesday, 16 November 2011 11:06 AM To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] busy icon I have about 67,519 people, 24,296 marriages, and 439 media items in my database, and I have a new computer. I have mainly noted this problem when adding sources. Why... I don't know what sources have to do with the index. Sometimes the sorting never gets completed or completes with the busy icon still there, and I have to shut down and come back up. Most of the time I just work on, and if I have to search for somebody I have found a "work around". I can go to the person tab then click on "index of individuals" after a minute or so a window will come up with the index, and I can search and go to a particular person in my database. But it takes time and patience. Other than this problem with the index, FTM 2012 works faster than previous ones, but the problem with the index is aggravating. Susan

    3. Lovely machine John now has. What a shame that the only genealogy program that can take full advantage of it is MacFamily Tree. The point is that whilst Ancestry ought to get round to raisng the minimum specs to 2GB taking the total above 3GB will not really help unless you are multi-tasking to the extreme. FTM both Windows and Mac is 32bit and cannot address the additonal Ram above around 3.5. If you have a large database and want to use FTM you will encounter performance problems.
