John, I think it depends on how you want to use the PNA. You certainly can Ignore that feature. I use it for current place names to make them more consistent, which, to me, is it's advantage. I Ignore those place names that are of Historical Nature. I know the place name is not current and will ignore the warning. Jurisdiction lines changed over time, I leave them. I still have a lot of PNA warning to work with, but for the above reasons, I am not in a hurry to resolve them. I do NOT change any Description fields when dealing with the PNA. Two thoughts: I the PNA, you have the choice to call the Place Name with a Short Name. It's on the Place, between the Place Name and the GPS location when you have that place selected. I also have used TWO Place Names for the same event (Fact), one with the Historical Name and the 2nd with the PNA location. Makeing the PNA name to be preferred. This is more for Migration Maps (Person Places) and to get a handle on who had a Fact / Event in that Place. It is quick, NO, it's time consuming, but for me, it's worth the time to deal with that PNA. It just depends on what you want it to do. I started with about 30,000 "places" appearing within the Places view of my file. Having gone through the listing fully twice now, I have whittled that number down to 20,000 with further work in progress. My perceived problem is that when I use the PNA, I have many things that come into view whether *I* think they should or not. My problem runs something like this, the place names would make sense, and by removing descriptions, I significantly reduced the number of "places", yet I have lists of people who married folks appearing within the places list. WRONG, IMHO! I would like to correspond with someone who uses the PNA itself within FTM so I can acquire usable tips. At this point, after spending weeks correcting the PNA's lists, I have turned its use OFF as others mentioned. Seems like a waste of a considerable resource - the ability to name places uniformly! I have NOT resolved all the places, still working on them one at a time! Someone care to join the fray?
