    3. I think many of the complaints stem from users not understanding the function of the sync process. They are expecting the trees to be duplicates of each other. As for differences in media items, the AMT does not support relationship images. What it does is - upload the media item and links it to the two individuals. The other area has to do with the images obtained from Ancestry.com data bases. Examples of these images are Census images, Texas Death/Birth/Marriage Index images, World War I and II Draft Registration Card images and some others. These images should not be uploaded to the ATM. They remain in the PC file but not in the AMT. The reason - the AMT links directly to the records and their images. So it is not necessary for a copy to be in the Media Gallery. I have found some problems with this in that some images are uploaded while others are not. No real reason for the different way they are handled. Another common complaint is the fact that the links are between one tree and one computer. If that link ever breaks, there is no way to repair it. The user must start all over. 3. More questions BJ if you please. -What if not all of my media items came from Ancestry. E.g.: Find My Past; Ellis Island; GRO; and so on, will they be uploaded to the AMT? -Preferred facts. Each time I accept data from a green leaf alert another preferred fact is planted on my Person work space in the Individual & Shared Facts area. I can end up with 6-8 preferred facts for Person ID or DOB or DOD. I am never sure whether or not I should remove these excess preferred facts. It seems redundant to have these repetitive facts moved over to the AMT. Yes, I am a neat freak but I can't work any other way. E.g.: Find My Past; Ellis Island; GRO; and so on, will they be uploaded to the AMT? Yes, if the media item is from another source, it will be uploaded to the AMT. One thing you may want to do is to enter a Caption for every media item. When a media item has a Caption, the sync routine uploads the media item and uses the Caption as the Picture Name which is displayed below the media item thumbnail in the Media Gallery. It makes a rather easy way to cross check the media items in the Media Gallery against those in the Media Collection work area. Unfortunately, the AMT does not sort the media items in the Media Gallery based upon the Picture Name. While the order appears to be random, I'm pretty sure they are arranged based upon the date and time they were added to the PC file. Rosemary said the "All media will be uploaded, no matter where it came from." I'm whether she is talking about every single media item or just those that are manually entered into the Media work area. According to the description of which media items are uploaded, images from the Ancestry.com data bases (census images and others) are not suppose to the uploaded to the Media Gallery because those facts are linked directly to the images in the Ancestry.com data bases. Unfortunately this isn't working properly. I have found some images from the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census records are uploaded but they are not linked to anything in the AMT. The 1930 Census images are not uploaded. I don't know whether or when this may get fixed. > -Preferred facts. It seems redundant to have these repetitive facts moved over to the AMT. For any fact label; e.g. Birth, Death, Census; only one of the facts for a particular individual can be marked as Preferred. The others are shown but they are alternate facts. All preferred and Alternate facts are uploaded to the AMT. If you have multiple facts and they all have the same information, I would link the source-citations from the duplicate facts to the preferred fact and then delete the duplicate facts. Now if the information is different then you may want to keep the alternate facts. On the other hand, I may have one source that gives me the year of birth and another source that gives me the month and a third that gives me the Place. I tend to enter all of that information into a single fact and link all 3 source-citations to that one fact. Others disagree with this approach but I prefer having one fact as complete as possible.

    3. Are these media files from other sources linked within FTM or was there a copy saved to your dive and that copy is linked within FTM? If they are linked to the external source, how was this done, as I have not seen any of way doing it? 3. BJ, You're right about the census images. I neglected to mention that I don't use web merge for my census data (English) and census substitutes (Australian Electoral Rolls) because I just don't like the way they are handled. This is strictly a personal preference. 3. I can answer the first question Ali. All media will be uploaded, no matter where it came from. I had made some facts private and the media attached to those facts was uploaded even though I didn't want that to happen. For myself, I want to be able to mark a media item as private so that it doesn't get uploaded no matter whether it is attached to a person, a fact, a citation a source or anything else.
