    3. Has anybody had this happen. As I've said before, I have a rather large database and have FTM 2012. Anytime I put a in new source, my list of individuals disappears and the busy icon shows up. Sometimes if I continue working the list will come back up with the busy icon on top. Both of them will be there : ( I can't search the list with that going on, so I have to shut it down and bring it up again. Anyone seen this happen except me. Susan -- --- Susan C. 3. Since you have a LARGE database and the list needs to resorted, you just need to wait a bit longer. Yes, it does appear to be sorting when it really does not need to be, but the programmers know more about this than we do. How long have you waited for the sorting to be completed? And just HOW big is your database? Number of people, sources, places, etc.?? My file has 130,XXX people, 51,7XX marriages, am down to 15,767 places, 14,333 sources and 632 pieces of media. [This info is available in 2012 within the Plan view using the More... button.] I have been busy working in the PNA the last 10 days or so, and have NOT yet started with sources. 3. You also have to understand that in 2011 and 2012, the index does a 2-level sort. It first sorts by alpha based on last name, then it does a second pass to sort like names in DOB order. It is the second sort that is taking the time and hence the busy icon. 3. Susan The questions that would be asking are........ What are your computers specs? Processor type, speed, RAM, etc?? What Windows version are you using? How often do you compact your database? I recently updated my computer from a 3.2 MHz Pentium 4 circa 2002 to a new iMac i5 with 16 GB of RAM running Parallels 7 and Windows 7 64 bit I did a number of comparative tests using my P4, a new Toshiba laptop with W7, a Macbook Pro a Mac Mini and my new iMac Some of the differences in performance were staggering, like a 400% improvement with a kinship report on a 7,000 person database. Also the speed of FTM Mac over FTM Windows is startling, the Mac wins hands down every time on the same database. Possibly because Mac doesn't use .Net 4? I only wish the Mac version had the same features as 2012 I would use it in a flash. I think if you could provide some definitive information including what you term a "large" database plus respond to the suggestions above, possibly better responses could be provided?
