    3. FTM is probably trying to get access to some protected area on the computer. I encounter this most often because my FTM file has a corrupt address. I suggest you open the file and use Tools, Compact. While it is compacting your file, it also rebuilds most of the addresses. Let us know if that doesn't work. Also please tell us What type of CPU you are using. The amount of memory you have. The amount of free harddisk space where you store your data. The operating system. The size of your FTM file The size of the media item you are importing. Good luck. After this morning's crash I compacted the file and as soon as it finished, I get the message, (Unable to compact file) > > Let us know if that doesn't work. > > Also please tell us > What type of CPU you are using. 1.80Gh Intel Celeron. > The amount of memory you have. 1gb (The limit) > The amount of free harddisk space where you store your data. 21.1gb > The operating system. 3. OK Thanks. I think the next thing I would try is 1. Open FTM 2011 and create a new tree with only one individual in the file. I would probably use my Home Person with only gender and perhaps birth date. 2. Using this new file, Click File, Merge 3. Select the old file and perform the merge. Hopefully this will correct the situation. BJ On 8/7/2011 8:16 AM, Lloyd Hite wrote: > I compacted the file yesterday after the first crash.
