    1. [FTM-TECH] FTM 2012 UK Installation Woes
    2. Bob
    3. Hello All, Firstly, please note this maybe only a UK problem, but, this is my experience of upgrading from FTM2011 - FTM 2012. 1) Tried upgrading, could not install Net Framework 4, so it asked me to manually install. 2) Manually installed and then added 4 updates to it. 3) Re-tried to upgrade to 2012. Ha, it was not fooled. It returned an error."Please check with the Vendor that this is a genuine copy! 4) Phone the company that supplied me the upgrade. They, after some discussion requested that I copy the whole of the disk to my laptop and then try a re-install. 5) Well that worked. He. He. It was not finished with me yet. FTM 2012 started, asked if I wished to import a previous version file. Now, lucky me, I not only have continuous backup, I also copied all FTM files to a USB Drive, and disconnected it. FTM 2012 asked if I wished to backup the file before importing. Yes please. Got me! 1381 people in the 2011 file plus media and everyone having sources attached. NOT know, I was left with just 89 random people, no media or sources. Nearly forgot, it messed up the copy of FTM2011 file it imported the file from as well!! 6) What was that old saying: "we will fight .....". So I closed FTM 2012, and re-started it, but, this time when it asked if I wanted to 'backup' I said no and directed it to the USB Drive copy instead, (remember it messed up the original). Beat it. Imported ALL persons, media, and sources, and although it will take ages to check every detail, it seems ok. Now, from reading all the different views on the 'Sync feature', I think I am going to stay clear of that for a month or two. After all that, I do have one question. The version says 21.0.0.388, is that the latest, as although it is now registered, when I ask it to check for any update, it does nothing? 2 daughters say I can be stubborn, but do not give up on some think. Maybe true. Enjoy life. Never promise, but, always try. Regards, Bob Sangster.

    3. Installation of FTM2011 to FTM2012 worked seamless here in Oz - Tested the Sync which created another tree on Ancestry, all ok, Media took a bit longer running in the background All the correct information was on the new ancestry tree (as far as I could tell - I then deleted the Ancestry tree - I was expecting a merge to my existing tree - but that does not happen Then Synced a small tree which I work on using FTM2012 - and then manually sync before shutdown - then check Ancestry to make sure the changes happened - they did So far to good but haven't found any WOW factors with the new version Daryl from Oz -----Original Message----- From: ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Bob Sent: Wednesday, 19 October 2011 6:03 AM To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Subject: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2012 UK Installation Woes Hello All, Firstly, please note this maybe only a UK problem, but, this is my experience of upgrading from FTM2011 - FTM 2012. 1) Tried upgrading, could not install Net Framework 4, so it asked me to manually install. 2) Manually installed and then added 4 updates to it. 3) Re-tried to upgrade to 2012.
