    3. I use 2 high res 24" screens side by side and set windows to extend the desktop across both screens. Works great for me - plenty of "Real estate" to have 2 copies of FTM running or FTM and a photo editing program or very wide hour glass charts, etc. Ok, are either of them higher than 1900 x 1200 by themselves? It does seem that a pair of monitors would be less expensive than the 27" iMac-style display.

While it might seem counterintuitive, reducing the screen resolution would make the text appear larger, but less clear. A better option available within Windows 7 is to go through the Start button, Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Display and then check the SIZE of the selected font you have. The default is Smaller - 100%. You might try Medium - 125% or Larger - 150% to see what works best for you and your eyes. I do NOT have FTM 2011 so cannot report on that! I also use reading glasses when at the computer although I seldom need them elsewhere. Let me know if this works for you. John Okerson Memphis, TN

    3. I was faced with a similar situation. I tried using the FTM 2011 "large fonts" but found that window labels for the fields are truncated (cut off at the end) so I removed the check mark and reverted to the normal text size. I tried increasing the Windows font size to 125 % but experienced some problems with some programs so again I retreated. I tried reducing the resolution but found that equally unacceptable because I lost desktop work space and the lettering was not as crisp as I wanted. My original video car failed and I had to replace it. I found one with 1 gb of memory and an HDMI connection. Eventually my monitor also failed and I was searching for a replacement. I felt I wanted a larger monitor but couldn't find one reasonably priced. Eventually I found a 32 inch TV for less than $300. While it has a PC video connection, it has 2 HDMI connections. I can use it for an extra TV for the grand kids but I love it for the HDMI connection as a monitor for my PC. I set the resolution to 1360 X 768. It is great. I have large clear text regardless of my application but I also have lots of desktop space. The only problem is the grand kids fight to use it vs my wife's computer which has a 20 inch monitor just to play Mario Bros or to watch YouTube videos. Just another alternative. 1. [FTM-TECH] Differences between Online and FTM trees for Sync
    2. FTM 2012 TreeSync - Differences between Desktop and Online Trees Ancestry.com has released the following FAQ about _Family Tree Maker 2012_ (http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-2370517-10488504?sid=blog+post) 's TreeSync. Differences Between Desktop and Online Trees Most content in trees is uploaded and/or synced seamlessly between Family Tree Maker and Ancestry. However, because Ancestry.com and Family Tree Maker trees are in different formats, there are a few differences you should be aware of. * Facts In general fact dates, names, places, and descriptions (including custom and alternate facts) are the same in Family Tree Maker and Ancestry trees. However, you may find that some fact types are labelled differently. For example, the Physical Description fact in Family Tree Maker is the Description fact in Ancestry trees. * Media items * The caption of a media item in Family Tree Maker is the same as the Picture name field on Ancestry. * Audio and video items are not transferred between Family Tree Maker and Ancestry. * Media items attached to relationships in Family Tree Maker are not uploaded to Ancestry.com. * Records you've found on Ancestry.com and merged into Family Tree Maker won't be re-uploaded to Ancestry. * Documents in Family Tree Maker will be uploaded to an Ancestry tree only if they are in one of these formats: .pdf, .doc, .txt, .rtf, and .htm. * Photos uploaded to Ancestry Member Trees cannot exceed 15MB, so a photo in your desktop tree that exceed this size limit will be resized when it is copied to Ancestry - your original file will not be affected. Images need to be in one of these formats: .jpeg, .bmp, .png, .gif, and .tiff. * Notes In Family Tree Maker you can create a variety of notes: person, research, fact, relationship, media, and source citation. When you upload a tree to Ancestry only person notes will be included; they can only be viewed by people you have invited to your online tree. * Places If you have entered shortened display names for locations or custom GPS coordinates in Family Tree Maker, they will not be included in your Ancestry tree. * Publications Saved reports, charts, and books cannot be transferred from Family Tree Maker to Ancestry. * Relationships In Family Tree Maker only you can view information you've entered for a living individual. In your Ancestry tree, anyone who is invited to your tree can view information about living individuals. * Sources * Sources created in Family Tree Maker using source templates will transfer to Ancestry, but you cannot edit these sources online. * Media items attached to source citations in Family Tree Maker will be uploaded; media items attached to sources in Family Tree Maker will not be uploaded. * Stories * A story created on Ancestry.com will become a .htm file in Family Tree Maker, which can be viewed in a Web browser. You can edit the text in a word-processing program. * Smart Stories created in Family Tree Maker will become .rtf text files in Ancestry. The story can't be viewed within your Ancestry tree but the document can be downloaded. (Smart Stories are uploaded only if they are attached to individual

    3. Ginger, Good to know when it will be shipped. I didn't get an e-mail with the 20% offer, but before I ordered FTM 2012 I Googled 'coupon codes for Ancestry' and found the coupon code for a 20% discount from the Ancestry store. I tried it at checkout and it worked. I usually do this before I order from Ancestry because they often have something special going on. I'm glad you got the shipping charges waived. I called customer assistance to see what the deal was and if I could get the additional 20%. Was told by the operator - after checking with his supervisor, that the extra 20% was a random email and only applied to a lucky few. Said the only further cost savings I could have gotten was if I had ordered over the phone - then they would wave the shipping - $5.00.
