    3. I simply add it as an alternate name which I then mark as "Preferred". That way it is easy to to find and everyone knows how the individual is called. If I need to use the complete name, I can always easily change the "Preferred" option. I use this because many people "go" by many different variations of their given name and trying to code the program to account for all of the possible combinations is impossible besides the researcher would still be faced with the problem of selecting and designating an option. 3. And it would be nice to have a choice for when only one given name is used and you want it to be the middle instead of the first. For example what if your name is Patricia Eileen Smith and you are called Eileen, not Patricia. I wish you could choose for Eileen to be used in the parts of reports where they only use one name. Lots of people go by their middle names. -----Original Message----- From: ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of John Yates Sent: Friday, July 15, 2011 7:08 PM To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] Suggested entry fields On 7/15/2011 2:15 PM, Linda H Gutierrez wrote: > On the People>Family view, in the Right Hand panel, click in the name field. > A pencil icon appears. Click on that and the edit name dialog box opens. Aha! I never noticed the pencil before. But this only allows two name fields (ignoring suffix). Three are really needed, as in the example I gave. But when I click on an Address field, no pencil appears for me. It should, and it should display the individual field values in the various fields. Like City, County, etc. So we can finally see what database field our information is parsed into. How do people decide if Monroe, State is Monroe, State or Monroe Co., State? (and formally may be Monroe, Monroe, State. And consistent with blog entry URL that says the most general address form requires 12 fields, all 12 fields should appear with individual boxes. http://www.endswithsaurus.com/2009/07/lesson-in-address-storage.html I'll leave out the next logical extension of this, which is to Source Reference fields. That is covered in the URL I mentioned. Gotta walk before it can run... http://jytangledweb.org/genealogy/model/ [went back and put the URLs in the message body above for ease of reference. 3. I wonder if I could ask, without upsetting anyone, to query whether this list, which about the use of FTM, could do without a series of "me too" emails which seem to be a reflection in the US postal service and Ancestry's dispatch system. No doubt worthy subjects but possibly not on topic for this list? If everyone on the list reports the arrival of their software, we are up for a period of very uninteresting posts. It seems a bit removed from the list's purpose? Just one person's plea John Donaldson

    3. I am away from home, and would love to hear how folks feel about 2012, particularly anyone who had been using FTM 16 like myself! The blended family reports should be a very nice touch, likewise the single page sheets showing connections between two individuals. I am quite interested in the conversion speeds per record to come into 2012 format as well as the ability to handle LARGE data sets - my file has about 134K folks and in 16 was about 470M, but that included media so would be similar to the .ftmb file I suppose. 3. I received my copy of this today and it included the 2012 software, the Companion Guide and an additional disk labeled with Family History Toolkit and Photo Explosion Album. This extra disk and the guide were part of the "Complete" package offered for an additional nominal fee. I installed 2012 and then inserted the disk for the additional tools and was surprised to find it was identical to the 2012 disk. The label was different, but the contents were the same. So I now have 2 copies of 2012. I called Ancestry and they were happy to correct the error. Because the shipment is part of a set, they are shipping me the entire set again. I will now have 3 copies of 2012, 2 Companion Guides and hopefully one copy of the additional software. I was wondering if anyone else came across this anomaly, and if they may have miscopied a large number of disks. Howard
