Linda, Using Ancestry.com, whether from AOL 9.5, IE 8 or Google Chrome works just fine. BUT the Green LEAF is within FTM 12. That is not working. I haven't tried 11 yet, but when I had the RUN TIME error earlier this week it was an Ancestry problem and took them almost all day to correct. In a message dated 11/5/2011 7:35:27 P.M. Since some of us are able to use it while others are not able to use it, there must be something other than FTM 2012 or even Ancestry.com at work here. All any of us can do is relate our own personal experiences at that particular time. At this time I'm not having any problems with the search. It is working for Public Trees as well as for Census, WW I Draft records, WW II Enlistment records. It may be certain paths between the Server and the user may be experiencing problems and delays. BJ, I have compacted and have my FTM back on manual sync just in case. I am on the family page and click on the spot usually beside the name in the column to the left. I click "add new source citation". Many times it is a book so I also add some citation text. When I click OK, the family file starts sorting. It is not blank, it has as you call it "the busy icon". I was just calling it resorting for a lack of something else to call it. Sometimes I'll leave it and it will finally come back up. With FTM 2011, I did have the busy icon for awhile when I merged two specific people, but not when I added sources. I can't understand the connection between people and sources either. I have found a sort of "get around" if I have to look for somebody while the busy icon is there. I can go to "person" then click on "index of individuals" after a minute or so a window will come up with the index, and I can search and go to a particular person in my database. But that takes more time and patience. Thanks for your thoughts and help, Susan -- --- Susan C. After I reviewed my Custom Facts, I find that I have added 3 related facts - Civic, Government and Politics. I have used each for things like recording elected offices held or boards the individuals served on. With regard to the politics fact, I have also used that fact to record political party affiliation. I see the Pre-Defined Fact "Elected" listed and I'm guessing that's the place to record elected offices and, perhaps, boards the individuals served on. I'm looking to redefine some of these "events" and I'd like to hear how others these things. Other Custom Facts that I have created are pretty self-explanatory, but since I'm surprised that they're missing from the Pre-Defined Facts, I'm wondering how other FTM 2012 users handle the following categories: City Directory Entry [I'm aware that this could be a Source] Godfather Godmother Hobbies Memberships Sponsors [in most cases, these are Godparents, which is the preferred way to record these are Facts?] Witnesses [I've created this category for what could be Best Man and Maid or Matron of Honor] I'm well aware I can do whatever I want, but I'd appreciate hearing about your preferences. BJ, No the browser shouldn't matter, but Ancestry has had issues in the past with one browser or another. I have been using the Web Search on and off all afternoon and have had no problems, just one blank response the first time I tried but a second search done right after was successful, so thinking outside the box, thought to ask about what browsers are being used just in case it was an issue. Thanks for the clarification. A number of people with large data bases have complained about the same situation. As I recall some reported having the problem after selecting another person. Others said they had the problem after adding new individuals and now you say you have the problem after adding a source-citation. I'm sure the problem has been mentioned to the developers and perhaps they can find a solution. The browser should not matter. The web search in FTM 2012 uses its own modified browser. I was experiencing the problem with a blank search window. I have FTM 2012, and every time I put a new source in my database, the list of individuals starts resorting and gets hung up. I have to shut down FTM and start all over. It resorts but doesn't get hung up when I start FTM, what's happening here with the sources? I do have a rather large database about 70,000 people, but I just got a new computer last week. FTM 2011 with the old computer was slower than 2012 with the new computer, but people didn't get resorted when I put a new source in. Anyone have any answers out there. Susan -- --- Susan C.
