    2. BJ
    3. Thank you for your comments especially about the ability to turn off the Trees. I had seen the check box in the Options box but thought that only kept your own trees from being searched. I just tried it and it does indeed turn off all trees for being displayed. However, that does not seem to help very much. I have been able to find some individuals where I get the message plaguing a number of people. I will admit that turning off the trees allowed me to find some of the people a bit easier. I found some individuals where I receive a screen saying , "/Check Back Soon We're sorry but search.Ancestry.com is temporarily unavailable. We are undergoing routine maintenance or we may be experiencing unexpected technical problems. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience as we work to correct the situation. Check back with us shortly./" It does seem to apply to individuals with multiple source matches but I can't tell which matches are causing the problem. I have individuals who do not demonstrate the problem and they may have from 1 to 3 source matches. The sources shown are for Census, Texas Death Index, Texas Divorce Index and SSDI. I went to the same individuals in my AMT and did not encounter the problem. So I suspect you may be right about certain types of records not being supported by FTM 2012 search and unfortunately when one of them is encountered, it blocks access to all matches whether they are impacted or not. Hopefully they will get it corrected soon. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. As for "not doing trees", I don't normally use the information from the trees because I have found very little of it sourced. However, I do look at the trees especially those with sources as I may find they have found sources which I have not found. So it helps on occasion. 1. [FTM-TECH] Another Odd Connection to the Index
    2. TH
    3. I don't know if this particular instance has been mentioned, but I was just working with the Manage Facts option and when I had finished making changes, the index blanked out for a short time, the whirling icon appeared and then the index returned. I'm hoping that someone who has a real connection to Ancestry.com is reporting these things to Ancestry so that something can be done about it. I should mention that I have Synce set to manual. 3. I hope it's truly an Android version (for tables, not phones) that can run Family Tree Maker 2012 and not just something that allows viewing the tree on Ancestry.com. Tom, It's not the same as you are asking for, but I now have access to my database using the Ancestry AP for the iPad and they just released the Ap for the Droid. I have used both, very handy to have with me. I saw the iPhone version yesterday, same thing. So, if you have, FTM2012, for example, have it in Sync, you can see your data on your portable device. ___________________________ Russ Mailto:rworthington@att.net ________________________________ From: TH <th4708@gmail.com> To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, November 6, 2011 7:21:53 AM Subject: [FTM-TECH] Portable Family Tree Maker ? 3. I'm sorry, I should have been more explicit in my statement. When I click on the Hint leaves, there are two types of hints available. Some are for Sources such as Census, etc and the other are for Member trees. When I click on the "green" Hint leaves, I am taken to a summary page with no problems. Both the Member tree matches are displayed as well as the Census matches. As I said earlier, no one is "blaming" any user simply because it is not their fault. We are not trying to dissuade you from taking what ever action you feel appropriate to your situation. All we are doing and can do is report our experiences with the Hints in FTM 2012 and if we find some particular action is helpful in resolving our problem, offering that as a possible solution. In general, I have found several different types of problems with the Hints and web searches: 1. I am not able to get to the Ancestry.com data bases at all. Normally this is because I'm not connected to the internet or at least FTM doesn't think I'm connected. I tend to go to the Plan work area to see the status of the Web Dashboard. If it is not displayed, then I know FTM is not connected to the internet. Most times I reboot and/or restart FTM and this seems to help. Of course there are other times when nothing helps because some of their servers seem to be down or at least the path between my location and there servers cannot be established within certain time parameters. 2. I am presented with the hints and matches BUT the matching information is not displayed in lower right pane of the web search work area and I cannot gain access to the records. This is normally caused by something being wrong with one of their Index files. Sometimes I experience problems with certain individuals while other individuals have no problems. Generally, I leave and return another time to find the information being displayed and I can gain access to the records. 3. I am presented with a message saying one or more of the Member Trees is not available because it may be down or has been removed. There is nothing I can do about this because I'm not even provided the name of the tree. I assume in these cases the tree has been removed and the index has not been updated. 3. It seems to me that no one is blaming users who are getting the maintenance message from Ancestry.com. For the record, I have had no trouble with either FTM 2012 or Ancestry.com for many days, including just a few minutes ago. ; it seems unlikely that there is a server problem at Ancestry.
