Courtney, I think it is something like 4.2 million records that will be deleted from the SSDI. As I understood it, the reasoning has to do with the new process they will use for death verification. Apparently state issued death records are not sufficient proof and supposedly the 4.2 million records were based on state death records. If you get Dick Eastman's newsletter you could have read it there. http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2011/11/important-changes-made-to-the-public-death-master-file-dmf-and-the-social-security-death-index-ssdi.html Linda in Costa Rica Monroe County, New York Genealogy http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~monroenys Monroe County, New York History http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~monroenys -----Original Message----- From: Courtney Sent: Sunday, 06 November, 2011 7:26 PM To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] Ancestry down for Maintenance? Ancestry buys the SSDI complete with index from the US government every month, so all they will do is replace the Old SSDI with the new one the government issues just like they replace them every month. No extra work for Ancestry at all. What may be a problem is all those links to the SSDI that people have added to their trees because if the link goes to one of the people that will be deleted from the government issued SSDI then there won't be anything to link to. -----Original Message----- From: Courtney <sitnah@cox.net> To: ftm-tech <ftm-tech@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sun, Nov 6, 2011 7:39 pm Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] Ancestry down for Maintenance? http://stephendanko.com/blog/15164 Changes to the Public Death Master File (DMF) and the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) Posted on November 1, 2011 by Steve Effective today, 01 November 2011, the Social Security Administration (SSA) changed its policy on what records it will use as source material for adding new entries in the Public Death Master File (DMF) which, in turn, is used to create the Social Security Death Index (SSDI). I think there are more connections also. When I go to a "hint" there is usually a sentence on the top right side of the page that says "These records may also be relevant to xxxxx" which has a list of link(s) to info that may connect to that person. I still don't understnad why the Record Sort is invoked by merely changing Fact Names in the Manage Facts procedure. What does that have to do with the Index? Well thank you for the compliment but I learn things from this list all the time. That's the main reason I stay with it. Often it is often difficult to duplicate the problems because we can't find the right records. While I don't remember seeing this particular message before, I have encountered similar types of problems. Normally there is a change made to the record layout in either the Ancestry.com data base and it gets implemented before the corresponding change is incorporated into the FTM layouts. Or sometimes it is the converse where FTM has the change before Ancestry.com implements the change. This seems to be one of those times. It is also difficult to track down because it is one type of record but the problem blocks other records also. Others can't duplicate the problem because they simply aren't encountering the one type of record which is causing the problem. This is the reason it is important for everyone to comment on their experiences without casting any blame. That way the individuals trouble shooting can see what is working and what isn't working. Thanks, Michael. I already added that one. Let's hope that Ancestry adds this and other needed Facts in the near future. BJ, to finish this thought. I called the 1-800 number and the result is they are resending me the FTM 2012. Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: BJ Sent: Friday, November 04, 2011 11:46 AM To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2012 It does seem to be a bit difficult to find someone to contact. I eventually found this statement on Ancestry.com/Customer Service. "If for any reason you need to speak with one of our customer service representatives about your credit card statement, ordering by phone, or if you are aware of fraudulent activities, please call us at 1-800-262-3787. " Here is a web page with more contact information. http://www.familytreemaker.com/Support/Contact BJ On 11/4/2011 8:24 AM, Jerry wrote: > Hi all. > I know this has been addressed before but I had ordered my new FTM 2012 > for delivery to Florida. > My credit card was debited but no program. There are now birth records that were not there before, when you access these in the lower right hand pane you get an error message and can not merge. Every time I have received one of these hints there has been at least one or more duplicates. I suspect Ancestry may be trying to correct this and stopped access. If someone is still getting access to these through hints I would like to know that I am wrong. Below is one of the records I am talking about. Ohio, Births and Christenings Index, 1800-1962 about Samuel A. Marconnett Name: Samuel A.
