    3. Since you have a LARGE database and the list needs to resorted, you just need to wait a bit longer. Yes, it does appear to be sorting when it really does not need to be, but the programmers know more about this than we do. How long have you waited for the sorting to be completed? And just HOW big is your database? Number of people, sources, places, etc.?? My file has 130,XXX people, 51,7XX marriages, am down to 15,767 places, 14,333 sources and 632 pieces of media. [This info is available in 2012 within the Plan view using the More... button.] I have been busy working in the PNA the last 10 days or so, and have NOT yet started with sources. 3. I have 2626 individuals with 934 place names. That gives me a ratio of about 2.8 : 1. You ration with 4500 is about 3 :1. So I don't find it too unreasonable. Where did you get the 25000 place names? That seems a very high number to me unless there were a lot with information other than place names. For example did you have a lot of place names which included street names some other type of comment included in the Place name field? Did you resolve any place names recently? 3. The Fonts can only be changed in some parts of the program, like reports and trees. If it is not clickable, then you are in a part of the program where the font can't be changed with that link. The font on the main page for ver. 6 can be changed in other ways, but not from that menu. Write back if that's what you want to do. And are you using ver 6 or version 2006 ? to find the version number, go to "Help, About Family Tree Maker" Courtney sitnah@cox.net -------------------------------------------------- From: "Harold" <gosnell36@bellsouth.net> > I have FTM V-6; on the help menu it said to change Fonts click on "Format" > then the Fonts icon: > > When I click on Format, nothing is clickable. > > Any ideas? > > Harold

    1. Re: [FTM-TECH] Blended Family Children Sort Order
    2. I am not sure what program you are using, but FTM 2005 and all those before would sort them in chronological order when you chose the sort children button. The only time they show in family order is when you first add the next spouse. Once you are done with that and chose to sort them it is always chronological. Annie in Minnesota In a message dated 11/10/2011 9:56:39 A.M. Central Standard Time, th4708@gmail.com writes: Page 56 of the online Companion Guide states: "Note: When you display a "blended family" in the family group view, you cannot change the sort order of the children, they will be listed chronologivslly by birth order." That's not so. I wish it were. Aside from the redundancy of using both chronologically and birth order in the same sentence, the children seem to be displayed as follows: First: Children born of the parents whose view is being displayed, in birth order(chronologically ;-) Next: Other children of the father in the view being displayed, in birth order Next: Other children of the wife in the view being displayed. The one thing in the above Note that is true is that you cannot change the sort order of children in the blended view. I wish we could. Comments? 3. He is talking about FTM 2012 which is the first version of FTM to offer blended families. As I recall FTM 16 and earlier will only show the children of two marriages IF you elect to attach the children of the previous marriage to the subsequent marriage. This is not exactly the same thing as the FTM 2012 Blended Family feature. 2. BJ
    3. I agree that the statement in the Companion Guide is not accurate. I believe you are incorrect in your assessment about the children in the marriage of the spouse displayed as being in chronological order. I have found that the order selected by the user is displayed for the appropriate spouse. I think the order of the subsequent marriages is actually based upon the dates of the marriages. Theoretically, if all children are in the chronological order of the respective marriages AND the first marriage is selected as the displayed marriage, the children might be listed chronologically. The Companion Guide is correct in that the order of the display of the children cannot be changed while in the Blended view. Personally, I don't always use the chronological order and prefer the current logic; however, I agree that if the user wanted to display the blended family and then sort the children in chronological order they should be able to do so but the user must recognize that it might then be impossible to see which children were the product of which marriage.
