Help, I either need enlightenment or something to relieve frustration. In People>Tools>Options>Names,Dates,Places, I am in the process of going through and resolving each place name. My preference is to not have "USA" shown and I have it so entered in the Place Options. I also have the "Check place authority when entering place names" checked. I also choose to enter Township and County in the place name. If I resolve a place name, the "USA" goes away and the PNA accepts the Township and County. The next time I start to enter that place name, the correct suggested place name has the "USA" at the end and, if I accept it, the "USA" is there AND it starts a new entry in the PNA AND is unresolved! Also if I don't accept the suggestion and spell out the entire name, the PNA will still put the "USA" on the end and call it unresolved. Now it is not on my list of favorite things to do to enter a hundred new people and then spend a week resolving the place names (I have about 4000 with 37500 people). If Ancestry is going to say you can leave off the "USA", then the suggestor should leave it off. And if they are going to say the PNA will accept those suffixes then it should accept them. The dialog will open to assign a category and select whether the image is linked or copied to the Media Folder. In this case of course you would want to copy that media item to the media folder. Click OK and then the image will appear in the Media Gallery. Select that media item and rename it if necessary and add a caption if you desire. I tried the Media dropdown menu AND Ctrl-V but in BOTH cases Paste is NOT black, so does not work. I suspect that I am missing something fairly simple, but have not come across it YET! Finding the Paste option is a MAJOR step in the right direction though. John
John, It's pretty simple. Right click the image you want in your browser and click Copy. Open the Media Tab in FTM and click in the Media Pane. Then either use the Media menu and click on paste or Ctrl+V. The dialog will open to assign a category and select whether the image is linked or copied to the Media Folder. Find the settings here: Tools > Options > Warnings > Double Dates, then select what option from the drop down box. There are 3. Viz: Leave double dates as entered, Use double date formatting, or Prompt me. Thanks VERY much! That solved it for me.
I don't think 1752 was subject to the double year issue. Thanks John. I am aware of the media and dataset not being in the same file except in the FTMB file. I have all the media and dataset backed up on two separate hard drives and off-site flash drives and DVD. PS When I click on the drop down menu next to Address on the Web Search page it shows one of the options as "Log out of Ancestry". So that menu is recognising me as logged in, yet the Search window is showing me as signed out. I tried logging out and in again from the drop down menu. That made no difference. Thanks, BJ. I made sure I was signed in to Ancestry in the Plan work area and in Web Search. I then closed FTM 2012. When I reopened it, I was still signed in on the Plan workspace and able to access all Ancestry services from there. I was also able to sync my tree with Ancestry. Every time I use FTM 2012 I have to sign in to Ancestry before I can do a web search. The program keeps me signed in until I close it. When I reopen the program, I have to sign in to Ancestry again. > I'm not sure how it is possible to be signed in for one area of the > program and not for another, but it's happening to me! I have times when Web Search in 2012 displays data in the upper portion - what I suppose is its search field - with data one would see if one were not signed in. BUT, in the lower right corner the dates and places show as they should. Additionally, and as a separate item, I have had a few times where Ancestry.com seemed to believe I was NOT logged in at all. A simple name and password resolved it, but it was a shock to be asked to renew/subscribe! John Okerson Memphis, TN
That is weird! I'm using FTM 2012 running under Windows 7 Pro. I just tested the logins with the following results. * First I opened my external browser, went to Ancestry.com and Signed out. * Next I went to the Plan work area and used the Dashboard to Log out. * I clicked on Search option. Search opened to the new search window with the current individual. I clicked Search. * The Web Search work area listed a number of matches. Clicking on one of the matches, I looked at the lower right corner pane which normally displays the record's information. This time it showed a screen I've never seen before. Basically it is a screen telling me I'm not logged in and that I'm missing opportunities. If I scroll down the pane, I eventually reach a Log in link. * I clicked the login link and was presented with a login screen. I logged in and the pane changed showing the information. I returned to the Plan work area and found the dashboard also logged in. I went to Ancestry.com using my external browser, I was not logged in. So my conclusions are: 1. If I am not logged in, I can perform the free searches i.e. basic search for matches but I cannot see the details. 2. If i am logged in via the Dashboard, I can perform the searches and see the details. BJ On 11/28/2011 5:16 PM, Caroline Gurney wrote: > Weirder and weirder.
