I am using Vista Home Premium with SP2, 4 mb Ram, FTM 2012, build 452. I have 4000 persons, 262 media items and 105 MB file size. Have not had any problems with 2012 until now. Am trying to create a small book for teaching purposes. I have named a book, created a table of contents and generated a descendancy report (4 generations) for inclusion. When I try to add anything else, FTM crashes with the two fold message that (1) FTM has to close and (2)search internet for a solution. When I try the search for an internet solution, FTM automatically closes. I have cleared my cache, rebooted twice, compacted my file twice to 0%. Nothing seems to work. This is my first attempt at book publishing, hopefully someone out there has more expertise than I, and can solve my problem. Jerry
Jerry, Lets deal with the crashing / closing issue first. Please go to the Knowledge Based website: http://ancestry.custhelp.com/ And enter crash into the Keyword Search and click on Search. This will bring up a list of Knowledge Based articles based on your version of Windows. Please follow the instructions, based on your version of Windows. As you go, please make note of what you see, what you did, any error messages, so that IF that article doesn't resolve this, you can post your findings here and we can go from there. Your first message mentioned version II... You said she is running the program - is it that she doesn't know how to create a gedcom or doesn't have the capability? So you are looking for someone who has version II who can help? If a person were to appear with Personal Roots version II AND it supports exporting to GEDCOM, then this lady would be in business! Apparently her old version does not support such a thing and she can find no one who has access to it.

Answer provided in latest Ancestry blog - IT works only one way - ancestry to FTM Ability to Exclude Record Images When Downloading Ancestry Trees When you download your Ancestry tree into Family Tree Maker, you can decide whether or not you want to download images of Ancestry records you've attached to your tree. You may not want to download images if you're worried about hard drive space or have a slow Internet connection. If you don't download the images, you can still view the records easily because Family Tree Maker includes links to the online records Regards Daryl -----Original Message----- From: ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of John Donaldson Sent: Wednesday, 7 December 2011 9:03 AM To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2012 build 452 now Don't really know as I haven't tested that one as yet John D -----Original Message----- From: ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ftm-tech-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Daryl Rickards Sent: Wednesday, 7 December 2011 8:06 AM To: ftm-tech@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FTM-TECH] FTM 2012 build 452 now Hi John Regarding item 2: Does this mean one can select whether to include media/photo when syncing an FTM tree with AMT? Ancestry backup does not work with the newer versions of FTM. With 2012 you have tree sync as an alternative. Cindy, If you mean "Can FTM 2012 be "installed" along side of Version 16, the answer is YES. I have 3 versions of FTM on this machine.
