I am thinking that he might be talking about the share with others function. If he looks at the upper right corner of the page when looking at the census image page he will find a green envelope that will send a copy of the link to that census page to others. It definitely has to do with your download folder. When it "goes to the bottom of the screen" click on the file name. That will open it up on your screen and you can do a File, Save As, and save it to wherever you want your document to be. If you download a lot of files in a row, they start lining up across the bottom and stay there until you close out your browser. Or if it gets too cumbersome, there is a way to close them all, but at the moment I can't remember if you click an x to close them or if it's a "clear all". Your subject line indicates a different story about your relationship and comments with FTM. Since you have not said what you are doing or how you are doing it, how can anyone even someone with AOL test, analyze and perhaps explain what is happening. Perhaps your security setting are preventing the file from being downloaded. I don't know which screen the item is appearing at the bottom of. Have you clicked on the icon or whatever it is at the bottom of the screen? Have you double clicked on it? Have you right clicked on it. I use FireFox and it has a download manager. When I click on it, it tells me where the item was stored. I'm sorry but you are not providing any information. BJ On 12/19/2013 7:15 PM, [email protected] wrote: > I am not complaining about FTM. If you are using Internet Explorer as your Brower when searching Ancestry databases, the Save option (at the bottom of the browser window) has an arrow at the right end. Click that arrow (not just Save) to see various save options. If you simply select Save, the image you are saving goes to the download folder. If you use Save As, you can select which folder in which to save your document. The problem is neither FTM 2014, nor Win 8.1. Great advice. I had forgotten about that dumb Downloads folder. chasqustaf, Not sure how the Subject line and the text match up. FTM2014 runs on Windows8.1, I have that in my laptop. In FTM2014, each media files are saved in a folder on your computer, which you can attach to an Email. Your email application may have a problem with the file size of a Census Record. I just got the 2012 FTM. How do you sync from other sources like ancestory.com? Robert L Grover
> I just got the 2012 FTM. How do you sync from other sources like > ancestory.com? FamilyTreeMaker 2014 is the current version. If you wish to sync with Ancestry.com, you need to post a tree to Ancestry.com and then sync between your FTM tree and your AMT tree. You cannot sync to anyone else's tree if that is what you had in mind. You can add data from other person's trees in a variety of ways. Could you be a bit more specific as to your intent? John Okerson Lakeland, TN
Robert, Sorry, don't know what you meay by "sync from other sources". The Sync Feature is between FTM2012 and your family file in an Ancestry Member Tree. You might look at the Companion Guide in the Help Menu. Ken, Simple solution. Go into FTM2011 and do a File, Back Up and close FTM2011. Do a File, Open, in FTM2014 and select that FTM2011 file. It should ask you if you want to Back Up that FTM2011, which you would want to do, making two back ups of that file, and the notes will be where they should be, in the People Workspace, Person View. Until a few days ago I was using FTM 2011 and manually keeping the two trees in sync waiting for the Sync feature code to stabilize in 2012 and 2014. From watching the traffic on FTM-TECH, it appears FTM 2014 with it's patches has reached stabilization for the most part. So I bought and installed FTM 2014 and downloaded the Ancestry database to FTM 2014 without difficulty, so far. I have a FTM 2011 database and FTM still installed for safety until I resolve my problem described below. But now I must find a solution to a database structural incompatibility for lack of a better description. I knew of this issue going in but felt either I would find a solution or one of the experts would clue me in as how to structure my data to get around the issue. Well, I failed, so I'm asking for help. In FTM I always have used the note section for an individual as a large "fact" so to speak. I would put textual information in there i.e. obituaries, abbreviated summaries of Military Registrations, stories, history book subject matter, wills, comments, etc. Some these notes were quite lengthy. When a FTM Genealogy Report was generated that "note data" was included in the report. In the Ancestry Member Tree (AMT), there was no public viewable place to put this "note data" except to generate a story, and so that's what I did via cut & paste from FTM database to AMT database. That was fine when I was manually updating the AMT but I knew that auto syncing was not going to do that for me. FTM 2014 Sync takes the AMT Stories and puts them into a file or link in the Notes section of that Individual in the FTM database. That data does not get included in a Genealogy Report in FTM. FTM 2014 Sync takes the Notes data of the FTM database and puts it into a non-public viewable Note (unless I give the person Editor status). Therefore it is for all practical purposes non-public. I tried creating a Custom Fact in my FTM database (not knowing the maximum characters it would allow). But it does not create a paragraph formatted field, rather just one long stream of characters which is not a good solution. End result is that I can not figure out a Database structure that: 1) will allow me to have a textual field for populating with formatted catch-all general information and be compatible with auto Syncing the FTM and AMT databases and still provide: 2) public viewing of the General textual field in the AMT as well as being included in the FTM Genealogy Report

John and others, There are lot of small databases that you would never find in the general fluff. e.g. I found a history of the houses of Nottoway County,Virginia, as an indexed book. One of my husband's ancestors was a Campbell who lived in Nottoway County. This is great, of course, but when I looked at each page in the book there were pictures of the houses and a genealogy of the families who lived in them. Just priceless! In this case, the Campbell's wife died, he had a son in the Legislature who had the law changed so that Dad could marry his deceased wife's sister. Virginia at the time followed Common Law from England. Now, that little gem made my day. If you are using Clooz 3.3 for your detailes document research and analysis, the template has a tab page "Digital Files" where you can drag and drop the URL for a source. From that point on, you can return to that URL page with one click. There is also another "Quick Capture" tab where you can capture the source text information in one shot while you are searching, then return later when you are done searching and sort and input the information into its proper fields. Merry Christmas to all. Joe
