Where does FTM 16 fit into the scheme of FTM versions. I have FTM 6, 10, 12 and now see the new 14 being referred to, but have also seen reference to 16. Where does it fit into the versions, if would seem that it would fall after 14, but don’t feel that is the case. Can someone enlighten me as to where this version 16 fits into the lineup, after 12 and before 14 or somewhere else. Thanks a bunch. Lee Ripp
Lee, Here is where the correct Version number comes in handy. Family Tree Maker Version 6 Family Tree Maker Version 16 Family Tree Maker Version 2010 (FTM2010) Family Tree Maker Version 2012 (FTM2012) Family Tree Maker Version 2014 (FTM2014) Family Tree Maker used numbers through Family Tree Maker Version 11, then FTM2005, FTM2006, then Version 16 The program was re-written with the next version FTM2008 FTM2009 FTM2010 FTM2011 FTM2012 FTM2014 There was NO FTM2013 So, the full version number is important. In your list you mentioned Version 10. There WAS a Version 10 AND a Version 2010. Very Different versoins. Hope that helps, Russ ___________________________ Mailto:[email protected] ________________________________ From: Lee Ripperger <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, January 16, 2014 8:57 AM Subject: [FTM-TECH] question for someone Where does FTM 16 fit into the scheme of FTM versions. Has anyone else noticed the difference between the database check routines (Tools > Compact File, before the compact operation) in FTM 2012 and FTM 2014? * FTM 2012 checks record links for the following tables - Records, Facts, People, Families, Children, Media References, Source References, and Note References. * FTM 2014 checks record links for the following tables - Facts. I might add that the check of record links for the Facts table in FTM 2014 was not added until the release of the first FTM 2014 patch, as even that check was missing during beta testing and in the original release software. I identified the missing database record link checks during beta testing, was assured the routines would be added before release of the software, then again after the release of FTM 2014 when I discovered the check routines had not been added to the software. I again identified the problem via telephone to Ancestry support Dec. 2, 2013, spending time speaking with a representative and being placed on hold several times while she spoke with her supervisor. I was told a report were being filed, and fix ticket would be activated. I was assured that her supervisor would call me back. Since I received no telephone call from Ancestry, five weeks later I again called Ancestry. After that support representative had read through the recorded notes, I was told the fix ticket from Dec 2nd had been cancelled with no action taken. Again I was told a new fix ticket would be initiated and I would be called. So far, no response from Ancestry. I moved to FTM 2012 (and now use FTM 2014) last year from a genealogy software database I had been using since 2002. Unfortunately the other software had ceased development in 2007. The other software has an excellent series of database table check routines, where problems are identified and the user is offered automatic fixes or a list of any problems errors can be checked and fixed manually. I even suggested such a process for FTM 2014 during beta testing, yet never received a response to the suggestion. Denise
> The problem I have experienced is the "Marriage Dates" do not show up on the index when I add that data. Adding Birth, Death, etc. work fine. I had never used Marriage date from within the Index. A quick check shows it to work for my database. As a suggestion, look in the rightmost column when in the People workspace, Tree view. Under the person's Name. there is an Add Spouse ... option followed by Marriage information. If you have three lines associated with Marriage, those three are Date, then Place then Description. A quick check would reveal if data is entered in the Date box.
rewolf4, I was not able to duplicate what you reported. I added marriage Dates to the Index, they showed up as expected. The Data Error Report worked as expected. If you go to the People Workspace, Tree View is the Marriage Date in the lower part of the Right Hand Panel for a person who is married? Of in the People Workspace, Person View, is the Marriage Fact, Shared, and below the Facts for the selected person? I found that using the Gedcom 5.5 option to transfer the data to be a lot faster and generates less errors when importing into TMG. All of the versions you listed can create a usable GEDCOM. TMG often can read your file directly IF you choose to offer the file instead of a GEDCOM.

Greetings I have an HP Pavilion with: Windows 8.1, with 8gb memory, 1tb hard disk. IE11 FTM 2014 V22.0.0.1243 installed 5th January 2014 file size 60mb with 5908 media, 9883 people, 1971 places, 1128 sources, 14765 citations Working well and very pleased with the overall product BUT Media - when I select the Media and scroll down the scroll stops and starts and goes into a "not responding" state for a time then continues. A similar experience is when I try to add an existing media to a record Also When working in the Tree or person space, adding information FTM goes into a not responding state - sometimes for over a minute when I close it down and restart Both these are "annoying" and I wonder if others are experiencing the same issues with a similar configuration - it being a "bug" or "feature" Regards Daryl from Oz
1. Put the DVD into the computer. 2. Open it using Windows explorer 3. Select the files and folders 1. FTM - files.7zip 2. FTM - shared.7zip 3. microsoft.net framework 4 (x64).7zip 4. microsoft.net framework 4.7zip 5. microsoft windows installer 3.1.7zip 6. prd.bin 7. setup.bmp 8. setup.exe 9. updates.ini 4. Click Copy 5. Go to your hard disk 6. Add a special folder say FTM Installation 7. Paste the file/folders into the new folder 8. Use Windows Explorer to open the new folder 9. Double Click on Setup.exe. That should do it. BJ On 1/14/2014 7:17 AM, John Hope wrote: > Thanks for all the replies. > BJ - how do I copy to the hard drive?

Had you tried to load it before this attempt and stopped for ANY reason? If so, refer to the following page on Ancestry.com http://help.ancestry.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5391/session/L3RpbWUvMTM4OTY0OTc2My9zaWQvdGNQcHdpS2w%3D
FTM 20xx has always exhibited the problem with the hesitation in scrolling of the media thumbnails but FTM 2014 build 1243 has corrected that. I just tried scrolling through my media collection. It scrolled very rapidly with only one short hesitation about midway through but even that was only momentarily. When you installed FTM 2014, did you install it over the FTM 2012 installation? I would think that FTM 2014 would replace everything that it needed but sometimes it retains some older program routines. If it continues doing this, I would probably 1. Uninstall FTM 2014 2. Delete the folder where FTM 2014 and/or FTM 2012 was installed. This should eliminate any residual routines, etc. 3. Reinstall FTM 2014 4. Compact your data file. 5. See if this resolves your problem. A number of people have complained about the message "Not responding" and interpreting that to mean FTM has frozen. What is actually happening is FTM is normally doing something perhaps searching or updating something in the data base in the background. While it does this, it doesn't respond to the interrupt requests from the Operating system which then says the program is not responding. I have learned after much angst to just wait a bit longer and normally FTM finishes what was preoccupying it and responds. Now if it doesn't respond for a number of hours as some have reported, then you may have some other problem. Sorry I can't respond beyond that.
