Thanks for the suggestions on opening the .ftm file. I did use FTM 2014. It told me it had to be "converted", so I let it, then I exported it as a new gecom, and opened that with FTM 16. All is well. Randy
Nancy, did you just recently install FTM 2011 on a computer it had not been on before? Anytime you install the program fresh Ancestry will ask you to register the program. That is so they can keep you up to date and send you info on new releases. It's a good thing to do. They will ask if you want to upload your file, but it is not necessary and easy to say "no". FTM 2011 has been on the computer for quite a while. I just haven't used it recently so checked for updates first. I signed up for Ancestry on Jan. 15. I wasn't working with my original file but had started a new one for a different family. > FTM Version 2011 Not that you MUST update your program, but the current version is FTM 2014. Windows 7 I recently signed up for 6 months of Ancestry. When I find a hint (leaf) on FTM and click on it the search results never appear in "Search Results Detail." I've made sure my FTM is updated. Any ideas on what the problem is? I had not used FTM for quite a while; it has asked me twice to "register" my family tree. I never used FTM 2011 - but have used many before than as well as 2012 and 2014. My guess is that "registering" your tree is merely FTM asking you to upload it to Ancestry.com. You may choose to do so if you wish OR ignore the request - whichever suits you. As for what is happening with clicking on the leaf - you ought to get Possible matches for the person, in the Web Search window - with results that are useful - hopefully. That is NOT connected to having your own tree posted. The results one can see when has a subscription to Ancestry.com are of more value IMHO, and with the subscription one can view actual records and images. Does this help you? John Okerson Lakeland, TN

If it is a .FTM file and you don't know what version of FTM that created it, I would use FTM 2014 as it will open .FTM files created by versions 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 If you can't find your FTM 3014 CD then use FTM 2012 John D -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Randy Sent: Saturday, 18 January 2014 10:09 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [FTM-TECH] Opening an .ftm file A friend sent me his research as an .ftm file. Thank you BJ. Unfortunately, your information does not remove my concerns. Despite a 'newer database structure' (I am assuming you mean a different database schema), does not eliminate the need for checks. Even the single check that now exists was not included until the first patch to FTM 2014, despite the missing check being identified during beta testing and assurances the checks would be added before release of the software. I have also double checked (GEDCOM export) using software I trust that provides exact information about problems (type and record location). The other software identified a couple of link problems with notes (which when identified I can correct from within FTM 2014, removing those problems in later GEDCOMs) and a couple of link problems with marriages that cannot be fixed from within FTM 2014. Ancestry's cancellation of 'fix tickets' without checking, along with their failure to provide follow-up responses despite promises also concerns me. Please understand that along with other users I am trusting my data to Ancestry's software (FTM 2014). Ancestry has made guarantees that their software (FTM 2014) will function correctly and protect my investment (my data). The impression I am getting from my numerous bug reports and calls about this situation is that Ancestry's representatives have little interest in the situation. Make sure you compact your database right down to 0.00. You may have to close the tree and compact it from the Plan page to get there (in fact, it's recommended you do it that way). Sometimes I have to repeat the compact procedure three times to get to 0.00. Hi Lee There is no such release as a new FTM 14, its FTM 2014 (released 2013) The previous one was FTM 2012 (released 2011) FTM 16 was released in 2006 so very much older For version history see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancestry.com Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 16/01/2014 13:57, Lee Ripperger wrote: > Where does FTM 16 fit into the scheme of FTM versions. Can someone enlighten me as to where this version 16 fits into the lineup, after 12 and before 14 or somewhere else. > > Thanks a bunch. > > Lee Ripp

Hmmm ... That should require more thought by development. Perhaps asterisk if multiple marriages. The spouse of a additional marriage could have only the one marriage. Are those the ones that do not show up at all? Hi Rewolf4 I had a similar problem with the marriage dates back in Mar 2011 and BJ provided the fix below at that time - Which basically is to re-enter the marriage in question - Can be time consuming but it fixes the problem Daryl from OZ Quote: I should have tried the "Not Married" before asking the question. After I sent the message, I did try it and found it was possible. I think it is an exception to allow for this situation. Sometimes things just get out of whack and this seems to be one of those. I'm not sure whether this will help or not. I'm trying to check my marriage dates and relationships in this way. You might give it a try and see if it helps. Using the People Family work area and its index. 1. Click Filter and make the following selections. 1. Click << Exclude All - this is probably not necessary but I want to make sure the right pane of the dialog box is empty. 2. Click Filter In...> 1. Click the Other bullet option 2. Under the Search Where - click the down arrow and select Spouse Counts 3. In the adjacent box, click the down arrow and select Greater than 4. In the Value field, enter 0 and click OK 5. You should now have a list of everyone who has 1 or more spousal relationships. 3. Click <Filter Out... 1. Click the Vital facts bullet option 2. Search Where - click the down arrow and select Marriage 3. In the field below - click the down arrow and select Any Data 4. In the adjacent field - click the down arrow and select Does not exist 5. Click OK - you should now have everyone who has a spousal relationship AND some information associated with the Marriage fact. 4. Click OK - now the index should display only individuals with one or more spousal relationships AND some type information, source or note associated with a Marriage fact. 5. Scan the index looking for those missing the marriage date. You'll need to review each to determine why the date is missing. I think that may work. Sorry, I goofed, used the wrong filter button. Followed the instructions by BJ and got the list of marriages with a lot of blanks. Looked at some of the blanks and they all seem to be entered correctly. With the filter in place, I deleted several marriages and re-entered them, to no avail. Now I am getting a corrupted index. The top 41 names are completely out of order. I can correct this by changing the sort to given name and then back to family name. Could there be a corruption in the index as a whole??
