    3. I believe you may be interpreting the quote incorrectly. The quote does not mention the email notification service. I believe it may be referring to an older system which actually sent an email to the user. I never used it too much so I may be miss remembering the feature but the quote is definitely missing the phrase "email notification". I've searched for some method of turning the email notification off/on but haven't been successful. 3. So do I. I always look at the mail icon to see if the number has changed. 3. Jim, Hopefully others have answered you, but I'll offer one suggestion. You can Mark Any FACT as Private. Those FACTs should NOT be included in the Export of that file to a GEDCOM. For example, I mark, by default, any Address, Social Security Numbers, and others (FACTs) as Private. They are NOT seen in my Ancestry Member Tree.   Russ ___________________________ Mailto:[email protected] ________________________________ From: Jim Hoke <[email protected]> To: FTM-TECH mailing list submission <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2014 12:01 PM Subject: [FTM-TECH] Creating a filtered GEDCOM file Using FTM 2014, is it possible to create an FTM file that only has a limited number of facts in it, such as those related to each individual's name, birth date, and death date?  That is, I would like to create a subset version of my FTM database in which all facts beside such things as name, birth date, and death date have been removed.  I can't figure out a way to do this in FTM and haven't been able to find a GEDCOM editor providing such a capability.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Jim ********************************** List information page http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Software/FTM-TECH.html Version 2008 - 2012 http://ancestry.custhelp.com/app/home ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I keep a separate email address just for genealogy and I archive ALL messages. The last email notification I received about a new Member Connect message was in July 203. But there are two more messages in my Ancestry inbox since then that I got no notification of. 3. First, make a complete backup of your file. Work with this backup file to ensure you don't mess up the primary file. Restore this backup file giving it a new name. Working with this new file ... Then go to Edit > Manage Facts. For each fact that you want to EXCLUDE from the GEDCOM highlight the fact and click "Data Options". This will bring up a list of all occurrences of the fact in your file. Click on "Check All" and then Mark Each Selected Fact Private and then OK. Do this for every fact you don't want in the GEDCOM. Time consuming, tedious, and error prone. Hence using the backup. At the end of this, File > Export > Gedcom 5.5 format and make sure you have NOT selected the "Include Private Facts". Review what you have set in the other buttons. Then OK. This, in theory, should do what you want. Try it with a subset of people. Afterwards import the GEDCOM into FTM 2014 as another new file and check to see this is what you wanted.
