Some list servers let the mail admin configure the list either way. Many rootsweb mailing lists have been migrating to groups.ioj. Perhaps this one should migrate as well? 2. In the old days there was some software to aid in tree maintenance. Mudcreek Software by Luc Comeau used to have GenViewer and GenMatcher. Has anyone seen anything to take the place of these programs? I am interested in the Islands feature of GenViewer. Has anyone heard of Luc Comeau or GenViewer and GenMatcher. GenViewer had a feature that showed any people that were not connected to other people. Mackiev suggested an Extended Family Chart, but it is a poor replacement. I have used Luc's programs and like them a great deal. I have not attempted to contact hi in the last few years though. I got my tree down to only 10 islands and that helped me a lot - less time spent on very distant possibilities. The newer versions of FTM are MUCH faster doing connections than previous ones were, but even so, I really liked his work. His website, Mudcreeksoftware.com, is still active. 3. The suffix field was implemented to allow researchers to add titles or other information commonly associated with an individual's name and enable it to be properly sorted.  Examples of its use include: Royalty titles such as Elizabeth II, Queen of England or Charles, Prince of Wales Professional titles such as JD (Juris Doctor i.e. lawyer), LL.D (Doctor of Laws), MD (Medical Doctor), Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) Some may be tempted to use it for Jr., Sr., II, III, etc.  But these suffices are better added to the end of the surname e.g. John Henry Smith III.  As this will cause the index to display, Smith III, John Henry.
