Prior to that I was using a PC. When I tried to use the GEDCOM file generated by the PC in the MAC, I discovered that every other software program (including online ones Ancestry.com, rootsweb, my heritage and tribal pages) could cope with a slash in the place field...but not the MAC version of Family Tree Maker.
