My tree is just over 1,600 individuals, so teetering on the edge of your 1,500 recommendation. I ended up having to delete the FTM2 tree and re-synch yesterday in order to print off a report for the in-laws. I carried out a small (unscientific) experiment and made a single addition via the iPad app then tried to re-synch and it did it successfully. So it seems using iPad *alone* is not the issue. That said, I'm not convinced that there isn't some kind of interaction between tree size, platform used (online, FTM2, iPad app) and size of changes, which seems to cause this complete crash out.
