Yesterday evening I managed to complete the repairs to the damage done to my tree by FTM Mac 2 when I first installed it in January. The same volume of work would have taken a month in FTM Mac 2 (and I can say this with some confidence, because that's how long it took, until FTM Mac 2 decided it would no longer sync). If you have a Mac and a small tree of 1500 individuals or fewer, then FTM Mac 2 is a perfectly reasonable, performant application. If you have a Mac and a tree with greater than 1500 individuals, then avoid FTM Mac 2 entirely. If you are already running FTM Mac 2 and are experiencing problems, I can only recommend that you do as I have done, and switch platform. I appreciate that you may not be in a position to do that, but that's the only recommendation I can give other than abandoning FTM Mac 2 and working solely with your Ancestry.com tree, online. Excepting the caveats "works fine with smaller trees", FTM Mac 2 is the worst application I have ever used for anything. Anything, at all. I have encountered the cause of every criticism I have seen levelled at the application, from its appalling slowness to its frequent crashes and hangs, to its failure to sync, to its failure to sync while informing the user that it has synched. I also read this yesterday afternoon after I made the decision to switch: http://genealogytools.com/family-tree-maker-for-mac-2-update-issues/ Their review is linked from that page. I'm sure the FTM Mac application will improve but I don't expect to see that improvement in the immediate term, and I won't happily pay for it.
