    1. Re: [FTM-MAC] Sync errors
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Yes, I too had noticed that if I made a change to the Ancestry.com tree and made a change to the FTM then synching would be become problematic. But I wasn't able to confirm that or even establish if it was the very act of making a change at all rather than the type or content of the change. And, yes, I also agree that the number of changes made in FTM may be the reason why it can't synch: but if that's the case, then I don't know what the limit is to the number of changes that synchronisation will tolerate, or how to keep within that limit. Further, FTM obliges me to delete and download a tree of 6500 indivuals because I made changes to one citation over that limit rather than one under. FTM Mac 2 is bad software. I have custom citations for certficates and other sources of research that I had appended to facts over the last few years and when I imported the tree from Ancestry.com to FTM in January, FTM made all sorts of modifications to those citations, including (most notably in the case of marriages) duplicating citations with each sync. At one point, some individuals had fourteen marriage citations against them -- fourteen for each person in the marriage, so twenty-eight citations when the marriage only required one shared -- and I had to delete each of those citations manually. And, it wasn't just marriages: all of the custom citations were duplicated at least once. There were thousands upon thousands of errors. Even this morning I have been deleting duplicated facts, and I don't know when those duplications have occurred: I don't know if they're old artefacts of FTM Mac 2 or new ones created by FTM 2012. I hope and expect that FTM Mac will be good software by the time your tree has grown to the size that mine (and many others) has. Even despite the problems I've had I've been reluctant to switch to FTM 2012 on Windows but having done so yesterday it does, immediately, seem to me that I should have done so two months ago. I'm glad that deleting and downloading worked for you! Jonathan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
