I did not sign up with Ancestry.com before then. I was not interested until finding some family materials this past Summer, so the Ancestry.com date is incorrect. I started out entering data almost exclusively with the iPad app.; some on Ancestry.com. All was fine until major issues on IPAD with the update to IOS5, duplicate people, missing people...for several months. There are still issues with that, and I get no response from Ancestry.com to emails on that or my current issues with FTMM. Since I installed the desk-top application FTMM, I have not added a lot of data, but I have added from the iPad, Ancestry.com, and most recently, FTMM. They are all supposed to sync. FTMM worked ok until I updated some of the Place Names; I suspect a bug in that area. In hindsight, I agree I should have started with a small test file. Also in hindsight, learning from the problems with the IOS5 update, I should have learned to wait it out and check to see how it works for others. I worked in an administrative capacity for 30 years with computers, software installation, trouble-shooting, and more. Not that classes wouldn't help, but I am not new to computers by any means, and this software is not user-friendly by any means. Just trying to save a few bucks lol Also when is a downloadable version to be released outside the USA, as a CD/DVD is rather useless for most of us MacBook air users. I see you signed up for Ancestry in 2010, is that how long you've been working on your tree and only on the on-line program? Can you evaluate how experienced you are with the on-line tree program? Since you installed the desk-top application FTM Mac2, have you been adding data to the FTM Mac2 copy of your tree to that file? Or are you just working on the on-line tree program and "syncing" to the desk-top, or are you going in both directions? Something sounds corrupted, walking you though the Mac OS system to mine for it might be problematic, since you're not familiar with the OS. As long as your data in the ACOM on-line tree program is as you want it, then I would trash the entire FTM Mac2 program and all associated files, a "de-install". Then reinstall and start fresh, copying the tree over from the ACOM on-line tree program to FTM Mac2, be sure and install the FTM Mac 2 update before copying your tree over to the desk-top. The best way to get used to all new tech and applications/programs is to have a small test file ( in this case a test tree) and tinker around. When you've learned enough, then you're ready for the real thing. Mac is user friendly, but not a magic machine. There is a learning curve, there's plenty on-line to practice or if there's an Apple Store near you, free classes to introduce you to Mac. Some were photos from other member trees, at least one is my scan of a newspaper article, it looks random. if they were/are ok on the original AMT and ok on FTMM-2 (they are), they should have synced. As far as getting to AMT, I requested the upload within FTMM. It went on its own to AMT and uploaded within AMT. I waited and eventually it said upload was complete, then said if I wanted to sync to go to FTMM to sync, went there, synced from there, waited over an hour for the blue line to complete and indication of complete sync before going to AMT, which shows not all media synched properly. This is crazy. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
