Then I uploaded/synched it to Ancestry. Using the program seems incredibly slow. This iMac has 14Gb RAM available on the Mac side of the machine and a 2TB hard drive. Yet, it's taking minutes to complete a data field as the program seems to be inserting each piece of saya, one character at a time - V E R Y S L O W L Y. Unless I am missing something, I am beginning to regret the conversion. Any suggestions? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. These are only suggestions, but I have found them very helpful. 1) Create Captions for the Pictures 2) Use the Category option I have my filenaming convention that I use, but that is only helpful to me. So, I create the Captions and when I do that I put the Media files into Categories. The captions are helpful when I want the pictures so show up in a specific order. Both of these should help you with working with the Media files. Russ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Answer: in Charts and Reports, as a Name option. Not very useful, surely AKA should be part of the person's data? My main complaint is that despite mentioning AKA there is nothing in the help files to tell you what/how to use it. #2 - Where did this file come from? or where was it created that you have multiple copies of the SAME, exact, media file. The creation of the material on the web is messy and will produce multiple copies of an image when used for a load of people in a family, short of being very careful this does happen. A routine that lets you find an image then apply it to lots of people on a tree would be very handy, there are several workflow issues that could be smoother for users, this is just one of them. If you have one image, that you want linked to many people, you use the Link To option. If you have multiple copies of the same image, linked to many individuals, you can Unlink, and Link to the one image. Then you can delete Media files that are not linked to any one. Yes I appreciate this can be done, but almost every other bit of Mac software I have (and I have a lot) has the ability to do a multiple select.... which would make it a lot smoother. In Family View ctrl click on the profile picture of the person - top right section of window. This opens a find image dialogue. Its a bit silly to call this a find image dialogue as there is no search function and you end up having to scroll through images to find the one you want. The inability to search media is an annoyance both in the Web version and this one. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. How do I seta default image for a person on my tree? I can do it on the webt, but in FTM2 there seems no way to do this? 2. I have ended up with a whole set of people all with the same media file - but each a different saved image. I want to combine them for efficiency of storage so all of them use the one image.... I can see no way of doing this apart from every single person adding the image to them and removing the other image from them - tedious. Surely it should be possible to select a number of people and add the same image to all of them - as can be done on the web version? 3. AKA - it exists, you can set it in preferences, but how can you actually use it? Not promising so far. Roger Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. At the time of this writing, there are some functional issues with the Member Tree program on the Ancestry site. Anytime there is a glitch on the site (and this can happen often) is not a good time perform a sync. Manually controlling when the sync function performs will prevent many issues. After I did the repair and created new file, I noticed the creation date showed 12/13/2001 in FTMM2. When I looked at the file properties in finder, it shows 1/18/2038. I also noticed a new 4 person tree I created last week with the 2038 date. Then seeing what HJC3HJC3 posted, I don't know what to think. I don't remember seeing this issue in last version. I was certainly concerned that my tree file may be corrupted. however if this is so how can I get exactly the same problem when I create a brand new tree, add one source citation and attach an image. Every time i try to open the citation the image count increments by one. This seems much more like a bug in FTMM2 rather than my tree. However how come none noticed this before ? Or more people reporting this issue? Peter Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. When I merge census records from Ancestry I always go in and unlink the sex fact from the sources. When I go back to the persons page, the fact number is decreased, but the media number remains the same. If I mess with Burial notes at all, the numbers will increase or decrease with every time I enter and leave the field. See the attached screen shot. There is surely a lot of work to be done there.
