    1. Re: [FTM-MAC] The last sync failed
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: dklart Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/148.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Are you choosing when to sync? When did the error in this sync occur? Date and time? Over the past several weeks there have been intermittent function issues with the Member Tree program. I recommend to: 1) Turn off auto-sync and leave it off. 2) Before performing a sync, spend some time using functions on the on-line member tree program, if everything appears smooth, go ahead and sync. 3) Check the Member Tree and Ancestry Site Comment boards for recent posts about wonky function. 4) Don't sync on a Friday evening, the airing of *Who do you think you are* burdens the servers with new traffic. The weekend never seems to be a good time to sync in general. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: HJC3HJC3 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/148/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The last sync failed. An error occurred while "Uploading changes from Family Tree Maker to Ancestry...". Try again later. If this error recurs, please contact customer support. This pops up and after I hit OK it says "Tree was successfully synced". Although it was not, and the error now recurs every time I try to sync. I thought I had escaped the sync errors, but alas, I have not. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have heard them talk about it several times. In the situation you describe, Use ONE PC for the Sync PC, and access the AMT with the other. I do that. I have a Mac AMT and an Windows AMT. If I want to work on the Mac AMT, I can do that from my Windows PC, online, directly in the AMT. (or my iPad). Russ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ncebulski1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/145.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, it does-- but it leads to another design limitation discussion. I have the FTM2012 software on my PC and also on my laptop. It would be very useful if both could sync to the Ancestry member Tree. Any inputs that I make on my laptop while I am in the field, talking to relatives, or doing library research, could be synced to the AMT and then to my PC (where I keep the master file) Is that a possible design improvement for a future release? Author: jedwin31001 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/146/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have the version 1.0.0.145 of the File Migration Tool. I'm trying to migrate my FTM2012 (Win) to FTM2 Mac. The tool never completes the migration. It never completes the step "Inserting 0 rows into TaksCategoryRel table" The scroll bar is almost to the end but the task never finishes. It's been running over an hour so far. This same scenario has happened about 5 times now. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: rworthington Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/145.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Nan, Please remember that FTM2012 and the TreeSync feature is ONE PC to ONE AMT. What you are doing, as you can tell, won't work. It's NOT file based, but computer based. For example, I have FTM2012 and FTMM-2 (Windows / Mac). I can NOT use the TreeSync feature from both. Expand that to the Back Up's that you were discussing. Does that help? Russ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ncebulski1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/145.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You are assuming we always work from the same PC or Mac. I teach a class on FTM2012 for Seniors, where the students work at home and then bring in to class their Family file backups on their flash drives. Restoring their files on the Senior Center class computers forces them to upload, link, and then delete the Ancestry Member tree (every time). We tried editing the file name to delete the new backup date and make the name of the file EXACTLY like the Ancestry Member Tree name. - While it does sync up to the Ancestry tree, we wind up with TWO copies of the Member tree - The new second copy (also synced) is doing media processing as if it was uploaded from scratch. There must be a better way... If the backup file name was not appended with the backup date, then the two file names should be the same. (unless there something in the software that precludes the recognition and syncing.) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: rworthington Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/145.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Nan, Having the Date added to the Back Up file, is a very nice feature to have. For example, you can check out IF the Back Up really works and is good, by restoring it, and the restored file can then be deleted. I regularly do a File, Restore and verify the restored file is good, then delete it. Then I continue to work on the original file. If you do a Restore, then just Upload and Link, from the Restored file, and delete the old Ancestry Member Tree. Russ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [FTM-MAC] Restoring from a backup unlinks from Ancestry Family file
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ncebulski1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/145/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It appears that the file names must be exactly the same in both places. When you do a backup, the backup date is appended to the file name and so Ancestry does not recognize it as the same file. Is there a way to inhibit the addition of the new backup date to the file name? I can tell that is the most current backup file by the file size and the file saved date in the finder. Trying to edit out the new backup date to make it exactly alike to the Ancestry file name appears to work, but I wind up with duplicate family files on Ancestry. Author: JohnKGerken Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/144/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Just curious if anyone else is seeing this: When I start FTMM2 it bumps to 100% CPU very quickly in the Activity Monitor. Shortly thereafter, the fan on my Mac starts running and runs almost continually while I'm running the program. Needless to say, this is a bit tough on battery life. Is anyone else seeing this?
