I spoke to FTM in South Carolina yesterday and they are claiming that my issues are the size of my tree - a modest 16,000 names. Seems FTM sync has a limit of 10,000 names and is a known restriction/bug that they HOPE will be corrected via a patch in about two weeks time. Meanwhile I am taking a break from any tree work as it has been driving me nuts also. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. March 6 was the last time my tree synched. I'm working on a Mac and enjoyed the tree sync function for about 2 months before it quit working. FTM 2 tells me I've added 13 people, changed 21. Added 37 citations, 20 media files, and 21 sources. Every time I attempt to sync I get "The last sync failed. An error occurred while "Uploading changes from Family Tree Maker to Ancestry...". Try again later. If this error recurs, please contact customer support. I click OK and then FTM2 tells me "Tree was successfully synced" even though it didn't. It doesn't matter what time of day or day of week. I've tried two different Internet connections. It would be nice if FTM2 gave an indication what file or bit of data it's tripping up on. Syncing works for a week or two at most; then the sync fails. I unlink the Ancestry online tree, delete it. I then wait a day for Ancestry's indexes to update and then re-upload the FTMM2 tree to Ancestry. A couple of points: I no longer do any changes to my online tree; all work now done on FTM. Since certain data (URLs for instance) aren't carried down from online into FTM, and also since each online tree now only lasts for one or two weeks before I have to unlink and delete it, I don't put anything unique into it. The only reason I keep uploading the online tree is because I have the quaint notion that other people might actually find some of my research and photos useful. However, if and when I get tired of this merry-go-round, then I expect I'll ditch FTMM2 for Reunion. Like they say, all education costs money. The logic used to place items on the report is terribly flawed. One instance is when someone is married twice with the first wife having died. The report shows that a marriage occurred after the spouse's death. Problem is the marriage was to the second wife, and the death was the first wife. Called again and we elevated to level 2 tech support and they say they are still working on it. Told me they thought they had a fix but when I tried what they said it still didn't work. Then they told me that Safari wasn't fully supported so I tried it in Firefox and it still didn't work...same problem...they then said to call back in a few days and would still be working on trying to fix the problem. What I really have a hard time with though is them telling me they are selling a product that is specifically made to work with any MAC and then also saying they don't support Safari !!!.....I know people have all kinds of opinions both good and bad on Safari but hey, its the one browser that comes standard on all MACs...how can you NOT support IT...I think that is ridiculous...particularly when they don't say anything about that on their box or in their documentation.....It would be like somebody selling PC Software that only works when its connected to the web and then saying they don't support Internet Explorer! Anyway they said to call back in a few days and see if it had been fixed, which I said I would do but I think almost 3 weeks is enough time for any website to be able to fix any probelm.....particularly when I have been using it just fine since the day it came out..... At that time whenever I clicked on a leaf which had "Possible Matches" the page would come up with the headings only, everything else was totally blank. This even occurred on leafs I had previously gotten matchs with and had merged the information with my tree. I called FTM/Ancestry and was told they knew about the problem and were working on it but it has now been over 2 weeks they have supposedly been working on it and I am still having this problem and cannot use the site or software at all to find or merge files. Is anyone else having this problem or is there any known workaround? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Then they send me a heap of things to try including installing and uninstalling my database. I'm glad it fixed your problem, but it didn't help me at all I'd been using the software for a few weeks before I noticed the problem as I had the older version and it always worked. I now don't know what notes I've lost and I'm a big note keeper. :( Ancestry told me to return it marked defective software and that I'll get a refund. I'm switching to another program I've had enough of this buggy behaviour. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If the purpose was to "give a heads-up" to the FTMM software developers, this is not the appropriate forum. This is a user forum and warning the mostly pedestrian users the program crashes when fired in a beta OS, months before its' release, is simply not warranted. When ML is released (the buzz is this summer), it may or may not cause problems with a myriad of existing software applications. So goes the world of tech. If not, they you MAY have issues until the developers have the final version and are able to release any updates as required. The is the normal practice of the folks at Ancestry.com. At least the way it has been in the past and I don't expect them to change now. The official requirements Knowledge Base stops at OS X 10.7.
