Author: meangeen1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/161/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The only Add a Fact options are Birth, Death, and Marriage. How do I add more options? I watched the tutorial, but my add a fact button does not allow me to add other options. Could it be in the settings somewhere? When I click the Options button, the fact data options button is not operable either. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I cannot recommend it as your primary program but it still makes a great browser for ancestry.com databases. I think in a year or so, if sales build, ancestry will get it working well. Author: LGlasby Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/160.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I bought it, mainly for the tree sync facility. Unfortunately I can't get it to work yet (the sync) so for the time being I have gone back to using my favourite software on my old work PC. I haven't given up on it yet. Keep going back to see if there are any updates and if there are I try them to see if the sync will keep working. Mind you for the time being my Other half is waiting to buy a new mac, so he is using my laptop which is another reason I've been relagated to the PC. Eventually I'm sure they will get it sorted and when they do I shall use it all the time, because I do like the idea of only having to enter the data once. On a forum I am a member of, a lot of them use FTM, either on a PC or a few on a Mac, and those that use it seem to swear by it, so I am sure that I will too, once the tree sync is working. If I had known then what I know now I perhaps would have waited until people were not reporting so many errors, but I think I would still go for the program. Well that's my thoughts anyway. Author: BobHewitt44 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/148.1.2.1.1.1.2.1.1.1.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I downloaded my tree from Ancestry and imported it into Legacy (free version). Legacy reported 5 errors - 4 DoD as "died as infant" and one record that had a husband as female!. Corrected these in Legacy and exported a gedcom in the character set of UTF-8 (rather than the Legacy default) to a new Ancestry Tree. I then imported my Ancestry tree into a new FTM tree. I made a few changes to some of the place names in FTM and tried a sync. To my surprise it WORKED...... I then made many changes and linked records on Ancestry and it Worked again. Am I pushing my luck or did my process above cure the frustration? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: praylett1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/158.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, No problem. I use Photoshop to restore photos so I'm OK with resizing generally. I'm trying to include images of censuses as large as possible with a simple one line title beneath. I'd rather not create two copies of every single image (a full size one and a reduced one for FTM books. It would be nice to just include the image as a 'Media Item' but this gives all sorts of headings which i don't need and cannot eliminate (and you still cannot resize the image to fit!), so I'm having to include the images on Text pages - one per page. Author: hstewart34 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/158.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Rats! You probably also tried the option and command (apple) keys as modifiers while re-sizing. The only other suggestion I have is to reduce the object BEFORE pasting it into your note. To do this in Preview, first make a copy of your object with a different name and then work on the copy. Open the object (picture) in Preview and under the Tools menu, select Adjust Size. . Make sure the Scale proportionally box is checked ;) as well as the Resample image box. Reduce the width or height numbers by a guesstimate amount to reduce the size of the graphic and click OK. Copy the now-smaller graphic into your note. Excuse me if this is all too basic; no offense intended. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: kmac1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/132.2.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I, too, have this problem of notes not being saved. I reported it to Ancestry and received an email saying thanks and we'll try to get that fixed. That was months ago. Meanwhile, as a work around.......immediately after entering something in the note field, quit the program before you click anywhere else and your note will be saved. This is not a very satisfactory solution but it will work until they get it fixed. I like a lot of things about FTMM2 but I'm done with it now, tired of all the many bugs. It feels like second class software. The last straw for me was when I launched the program and it informed me that my family file (and all it's media files) are no longer linked to Ancestry! This happened once before and now I have two trees on Ancestry that are identical. I don't want to go that route again. I've had enough fun! Author: praylett1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/159/mb.ashx Message Board Post: On importing a work doc containing a table into a text page in the Books feature of FTMM2, the table columns are all resized to be of equal width. Author: praylett1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/158/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Although I can insert a photograph as a Text Item (!) and add a title beneath it, in a book, when I preview the book the heading is moved to the following page. How can i stop this happening. Also in the same senario how do I resize a photo while keeping proportions. Dragging from a corner, as instructed in the Companion Guide, does not do this and allows free resizing in all directions. Author: hstewart34 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/148.1.2.1.1.1.2.1.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I don't doubt they've got bugs relating to large trees, but that is not the sole source of the problems. My tree has only just over 1,400 names, and about 100 pictures, and it failed to sync again. I had added names and sources and synced successfully earlier in the day. But then I changed a name (adding a previously unknown last name) and added two pictures and sync failed. I just unlinked and nuked my online tree again. Will upload again tomorrow, if I get 'round to it. BTW, I regularly 'compact' my FTMM2 tree to keep its indexes (or do you say indices?) in good shape, and that does nothing to prevent sync failure.
