    1. [FTM-MAC] A nifty trick for replacing photos
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: rfmansfieldjr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/168/mb.ashx Message Board Post: With all the frustration about FTM2/Mac going around, I thought I might share a positive little trick I found for photos. I had a bunch of photos that I had uploaded to Ancestry that I decided I wanted to touch up. In trying to figure out the easiest way to do this, I discovered that I could edit the photo directly in the media folder and when I tell FTM2/Mac to sync, it replaces the photos I have in my tree on Ancestry.com. This also worked when I edited a different photo and saved it with the same name of a previous photo, essentially replacing the original. This is one case where the sync really works well. Author: rfmansfieldjr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/167.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Occupation is what someone does. Employment refers to where someone works. So in your example, "steel plate mill roller" is an occupation. His employer is whoever pays him to do it. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jaycadiramen1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/167/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I am hoping someone can shed a bit of light on this subject for me as it has me quite confused: what is the difference, in FTM for Mac 2, between Occupation and Employment when it comes to the Individual tab? I suspect that an occupation may include unpaid work, while employment would be strictly paid work, but would be interested to know what others think. At the moment, for instance, I am recording info from a marriage certificate which lists the groom's father's 'Rank or Profession' as "Steel Plate Mill Roller". I have recorded this under both 'Occupation' and 'Employment' on the date of the wedding... is that right? Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Example: Ken tucky This is just one example it seems that when you have a long line in the source and have to have a continuation line in the gedcom you come up with this problem. I have sent in a problem report but no real response. Dose anyone have a solution to this? Roger Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. So far so good-except I have hit an extremely frustrating snag. Its a long and boring story but. bottom line is :Where is the button to fix all missing media links. I can't imagine this feature would be not included. If its not that means i need to go through 700 and ask FTM to look for links of manually link each individually Seriously?? Please tell me Im jut missing something obvious Thank all! Carrie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This program was not not thoroughly tested and is not well supported. I'm happy for you that it works well for you. It does not work well for me. The place Authority has many bugs. The numbers on the Person page people tab are not working properly. The sync function is iffy at best. Ancestry is not a software company and it shows. When I add media the count now goes up by 1 and when I delete media it decreases by 1 - great ! However since (due to fault of previous version) my actual media count on certain sources can be anything unto 40 the new update does not totally solve the problem. I've tried compacting but the media the count is still ridiculously high. Anyone else got this behaviour - and any ideas how to "reset" the count to the real count (which I my case might be from 0-4). I merged in a new source from Ancestry and source indicator shows 1 and media shows 0. Last versions I was able to view media in souce, close view, and media count would change from 0 to 1 (or whatever the next higher # was). Now it stays 0. I also noticed some of my media counts have changed to 32767. Also, in my Master Media folder all of my files (except for those dated 3/25/2012 to today) have had the dates changed to Jan 3, 1980. So much for the new update... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They have made a suggestion which I was sceptical about. They told me to change the date format in the MAC preferences from UK to USA. I immediately thought that my dates in FTM would go American but this is not the case. What effects this has on other MAC applications I have yet to see. Anyway a change and a full reboot didn't solve the issue and I told them so. What I did next was to download my Ancestry tree again into a new named FTM tree and from this point it has worked 100% after about 10 syncs. I still have the old FTM file just in case I have lost any data. The sync are now quite rapid rather than having to wait about 15 minutes so I am keeping my fingers crossed. It's worth a try. However David, you may well be in the USA so this might not be of much help! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. According to my "About" box, my current version is 21.2.2.415, which assuming your first two numbers are merely transposed, would mean that you're missing fixes that were recently added to the .415 drop. Updating to .415 did help me some, in that the failures are LESS frequent. But of course they still occur. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I get the dreaded sync error message again telling to try again later or contact support. I rang a lady in South Carolina and we went through the set procedure for creating a new FTM file from the online tree. This worked and when I tried a quick edit in FTM it failed to sync again. The lady didn't offer any further help and told me to submit an error report. It's so frustrating and feel I have been ripped off as the sync feature was the main reason for the purchase. Does anybody else get these issues? Is there a patch for this? My current version is 2.21.2.2 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Vyln1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/113.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have had similar problems. I have never had a Mac program with so many issues. Tech support has offered many solutions, none of which have worked. I have downloaded my ancestry.com tree so many times, I have lost count. The sync feature, when it works is great but before you know it, FTM will tell me my tree is not uploaded or linked and I have to start all over again. As I was downloading my most recent tree, it sucked up a huge portion of my hard disk space but eventually it must have cleared the cache and I got most of the space back. I also have issues with the fan running to the extreme. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice with no luck. This program has crashed more than any program I have ever had since I moved to OS X years ago. What is more frustrating is that I was a beta tester for the new version and had many of the same issues. I was completely shocked when the program hit the market. It clearly wasn't ready to go. I really don't want to become an expert a! t troubleshooting especially since I am not getting paid to do it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
