Author: Babs_Hobbs Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/170.1.1.1.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: No, FTM2 won't sync at all. I only get an error message as detailed in my first post. I only started using the iPad app after a couple of days, before that there were no problems syncing between AMT and FTM2 at all. But now that I've been making changes via the iPad app, it won't synch. The only way 'round it was to delete my FTM2 tree and "create new" using the "existing Ancestry tree" option to re-create the tree in FTM2. Fortunately I hadn't made many changes in FTM2 so I hadn't lost anything. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The Ancesty APP on your iPad, works with your Ancestry Member Tree (AMT). You can view it and work with it, iPad to AMT. Family Tree Maker for the Mac (FTMM-2) also will Sync information on your Mac, to your AMT. The next time you Sync from the FTMM-2 (your Mac), any updates from the iPad to the AMT will be downloaded form the AMT to FTMM-2. Author: robsnorth Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/170.1.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Those were the observations I made. It took some time to work what seems to be happening, but it appears to happen every time I try it on purpose. I delete and reload Ancestry Mobile when it refuses to "talk" to Ancestry.co.uk and then all is fine as long as I only use it to look at my tree. None of the ancestry "sync problem" article works when Mobile is involved, but if FTM fails to sync then their process of unlinking the on-line tree and downloading to FTM again with a new link is fine. This is very interesting as I've been using the iPad ancestry app in-between being online and on FTM2. Maybe that's the issue? Which is a pain as that was part of the reason I bought and downloaded the Ancestry apps. So much for integration! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: robsnorth Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/170.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have to add that when you add data to Ancestry Mobile off-line then next time you connect it will sync (or 'update' for pedants) to Ancestry on line tree. After it does this FTM Mac 2 will no longer 'sync' and gives the usual message to try later - but it will not sync ever again at any time until the tree is downloaded to FTM again from Ancestry and linked again to the member tree (after first unlinking the Ancestry tree and deleting the FTM tree concerned). Author: dklart Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/170.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The mobile app does not sync, it updates data you enter using it in real time with the on-line member tree program. Turn off auto-sync between FTMM2 and the ACOM on-line member tree program. Choose when to sync your data between FTMM2 and ACOM on-line member tree program. There are better times than others. Remember, the servers can get slammed at times, so pick a quiet time to sync and you should be fine. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: robsnorth Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/170.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found that if I sync FTM2 to Ancestry all is OK. However if I use Ancestry Mobile in the meantime FTM will not sync after this. Conversely, if I use Ancestry Mobile after a FTM sync, then Ancestry Mobile will not sync. This would suggest that FTM2 and Ancestry Mobile are not compatible with each other between syncs and each writes something to the on-line tree that stops the other from syncing. This happens even when I log out of Ancestry on-line before using the PC or mobile programme. Any ideas, or does Ancestry know what is going on? Author: rfmansfieldjr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/162.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for all the responses. I've had one sync issue since using FTMM2 where I finally deleted my file and re-downloaded everything from the website. Now I keep frequent backups. It sounds like the sync issues are the biggest problem. Hopefully, the engineers will continue to fine tune these issues. Author: HJC3HJC3 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/162.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ok, here's a difference. I was running FTMM 2 and have run into the dreaded synch fail again. I did everything suggested from both online and from support. After all that, I was still unable to synch. On a whim, I decided to migrate my file back to the Windows version. Amazingly enough, the windows version was able to create and synch with a new file on Ancestry where the Mac version could not. The difference that I have seen in general is that the MAC version is always a couple steps behind the WIN version. Whenever updates come out, they are always for the Win side well before the MAC side. and even after those updates, the MAC side is still a couple generations behind WIN. I would prefer to run the MAC version so I don't need to always have Parallels running, but WIN is the more up to date better working version. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Babs_Hobbs Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/170/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I've got FTM2 and it was working great for the first two days, but now every time I try and synch I get the following error: The last sync failed. An error occurred while "Uploading changes from Family Tree Maker to Ancestry.". Try again later. If this error recurs, please contact customer support. Yesterday I read through loads of support threads and ended up deleting the files from FTM2 and "creating new" by exporting from Ancestry to keep the FTM2 up-to-date. But now today I've ended up with the same problem. Obviously I don't want to keep having to delete and re-creating trees in FTM2 every time this occurs. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? (I did just call Ancestry support, but line 2 technical support don't start working until 3pm - it's 9.45 am at the moment!!!) Author: jedwin31001 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/162.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Some of the differences are: the autofill for Place Descriptions isn't added in the FTMM2. The Merge screen is still the old bubble style (personally I hope they leave it this way). Everytime you add or click a place name, you have to hit the Tab key to finish the operation. Other differences are the obvious slow merging people, the abrupt shutting down with no obvious cause, and the slow action when creating a filtered list. But it sure is pretty! Author: jedwin31001 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.software.ftmmac/162.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Biggest difference is that Win FTM is at v2012 while Mac FTM is still at v2010. I suspect that Mac FTM 1 was a conversion process to test the Mac market. Adding the sync features was a move to make transition easier. At some point ancestry will spend the bucks to make Mac FTM viable (and useful). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
