My gr gr gr grandfather was named George Frier/Fryar/Friar/Fryer. He died in Franklin County, MO in 1836. I am almos certain he was not from Germany, since there are no german given names in the family, but many, many given names such as John or Jesse that are common with Fryer families from much earlier times in Virginia and the Carolinas.

My records begin when an Elias Beale (Beall/Beal) moved the family to Belmont County from Guernsey County. Belmont County 1860 Census (Pease Township) Elias "Beale" - age 33 - born in Maryland - farmer Martha J. - 29 - Ohio (Martha Jane Fryer?) David S. - 10 - Ohio Precie - 8 - Ohio William H. - 6 - Ohio Rebecca J - 4 - Ohio Rachel - 2 - Ohio Elias - 4 mos. - Ohio An entire boatload of Bealls (including several Eliases) are buried in Belmont County in Crabapple Cemetery near the Harrison County line off Rte. 9. (The names on the tombstones are "Beall.") Rachel Adaline (my great-great grandmother and the 2-year-old of that census) died of uterine cancer in 1916. Her father is listed as Elias "Beal." Her mother is listed as a Martha "Crowey." (The handwriting listing the mother's name on the death certificate is a different hand. It appears to have been written at a later date by somone else. Also, the last name is difficult to decipher as far as spelling, so her mother's last name is somewhat suspect.) I have the death certificate for Martha J. "Beall"!!!! She was born in October 1836. She died of old age at the age of 79 and is buried next to Rachel. Martha J.'s mother is listed as a Jane Fryer from Ireland. Her father is listed as a William Anderson of Virginia. (Hence the slight confusion over Martha's real last name.) Do you have ANY information on Martha J's family and Jane Fryer? HELP! :>) :>) Jane

He would have been born about 1870, and I have no idea where. I only know that he lived in Seattle in the first several decades of the 20th century, and that his son's marriage certificate indicates he's from either Missouri, Minnesota or Mississippi (I think the abbreviation might have been incorrect). He married a Nellie or Neeltje Bune c. 1895.

Hello Members George Fryer and Margaret Wright were married 2nd quarter 1868 in Ripon, Yorkshire, Eng. They went to Chicago, Il, USA where their children were born. George was killed in an accident and Mgt brought the family back to Yorkshire. (My grandfather George Robert the oldest child b 1869, in the 1881 census in Ripon. Does anyone belong to this family? Possible children Nellie, John, Alfred, Frank, Archibald, Rhodes (called Roddy) or more likely Thomas, Mary and Iram. Would love to find out more about George and Margaret, both before going to Chicago and info about her later in Yorkshire. Thanks Anne, Nelson, NZ
Oops! Let me try again.......this time to the right listserv! I am looking for information about John Frank (Franklin?) Frye who died in PA in 1936. He was married to Mary Katharine Alter who preceded him in death, about 1930, I believe. Actually, I am interested in his immediate family, his father & mother, and his children, but I am also keenly interested in learning the background of his wife Mary K. Alter. My grandmother ended up w a copy of his will and was named as one of his heirs, so I am trying to connect my grandmother to him, and I think the link is his wife Mary. Gordon Walter, Ackley, Ia.
I am looking for information about Carrie Alter and (I think) her husband Charles Alter who lived at 325 Lincoln Street, Johnstown, PA, during the 1940s. Gordon Walter, Ackley, Ia.
