Author: seedytoe Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fryer/472.1.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I believe there could possibly have been two different Fryer families in Monmouth area, mine are the Monmouth town crew, although they are spread around a bit more these days! Most of the research I have been able to follow has been descended from Thomas Fryer(c1775) and his wife Elizabeth(possibly Lewis) They married 18/7/1802. Thomas' parents, I believe, were John and Sarah but where they were born, I have no idea. There was an Edward Fryer married to Frances (Griffiths?) in 1790. As there seem to be very few Fryers in Monmouth around 1790 - 1800 it could be very likely that this Edward and "my" Thomas were brothers. I have so far found for Edward and Frances, only one son Ewdard(1806)and daughter Elizabeth(1803), although possibly another son William (1796). Edward(1806) married a Maryann and the 1841 census has his occupation as fisherman, they seem to have had three children William(1827), Anne(1835) and Isabella(1837). That is the total of information I have on that b! ranch, so I have no idea if there were movements of those Fryers into neighbouring counties at a later date but would be very interested to find anything about this family. Author: Krupovich Surnames: Fryer, Hart Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fryer/472.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am interested in the Fryer families in both locations. I'm researching the family of Joseph Hart and Hannah Fryer. Both were born in Gloucestershire and moved to Monmouth (Cheptstow area--around 1845) and then to Glamorgan (Cardiff---after 1850). Hannah Fryer was born in Arlingham, Gloucestershire in 1820. Her father is believed to be John Fryer. Hannah and Joseph Hart married in Bristol in 1838. There are a great many Fryers in Arlingham and Bristol in that period. Have not been able to find Hannah's parents---other than the father's name "John"---so I've been looking for Fryers who lived in and around the locations Hannah Fryer Hart lived in over the years. A John Fryer, born also in Arlingham, Gloucestershire, is living in Monmouth at the same time as Hannah (he arrived there by 1841). This John Fryer was married to Prudence Gower---and there are a few children living with them in 1841 and beyond. I believe that John and Prudence may be Hannah's parents. I'm just starting my research on the Harts and Fryers---but I'm willing to share what I find. Would be interested in any and all information on the Fryers in Arlingham and Bristol as well as Monmouth. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I know from his marriage certificate that his father was Thomas Fryer, and there are 2 Thomas Fryers in Northwich at the time but from what I have found neither of them fit the bill. George next turns up getting married in Stockton-on-Tees in 1848, and he is living in Hartlepool. I have no idea how or why he ends up in Hartlepool, but on the 1851 census he is living at Joshua's Folly in Hartlepool where there just happens to be a John Fryer living on the same street. This John Fryer was born in Colburn in Yorkshire (by Catterick) so I am wondering if there is a connection between George Fryer and this family in North Yorkshire - hopefully this may ring some bells with someone. I do believe John Fryer may have been a Catholic which could explain why I've never been able to find George on any CofE parish registers. Unfortuantely my information on George is rather limited as he died in 1858, although his widow, Mary Ann, was still living in West Hartlepool in the 1870s. Any information greatly received!
