Doing genealogy is a lot of brain work, going back and forth, doing a lot of research. Thankfully, there are so many sites to gather info from. As I posted before, Missouri's death certificate archives is wonderful. Find a Grave has been a big help too. I haven't been on too much lately, but most likely will be w/ the colder weather. I didn't know what I was doing either. I basically started out with a list that a great aunt had down w/ our family. And after my dad died, I found a list of his mother's siblings and parents. You just start with what you know to be fact, and expand out from there. Start with yourself, your parents, in-laws, siblings, grandparents, great grandparents. A lot of times Ancestry will provide 'hints' - to the censuses, military records, directories, etc. You see familiar names listed, compare to what you have, and determine whether it belongs with your tree or not. I'm sure that I have a lot of stuff in my tree that is not accurate, but until I can find evidence to the contrary, I keep it in there. Dive in, and have fun!!
