Maxine, I went through the DAR with my Froelich, so I have bak until 1730's. Doraine
Doraine, There are several spellings of the name: Froehlich, Frahlig, Frahlic and Froelich. The descendants evidently do not know the name of John's father because they have written a history for our local family book and they do not name him. John's family came from Brienne, Germany, which is near Frankfurt. John was a wine maker and continued to make wine in this country. According to their history, the family came to America and two weeks later, a daughter Matilda was born February 22, 1874. We know of two of her sisters, Lizabeth and Barbara who were married to gentlemen of German heritage. According to one history, their mother was Katharina. These families are all well thought of in this community. They first settled in Georgetown, Brown County, Ohio, and then came to Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky. They must have like the name Georgetown. It is not likely that this John is a son of your ancestor, but it would be great if we could make the connection. I am not a descendant, just married into one of the families. I will make a copy of your letter and my response and see what the others have to say. Shirley, The second Hoffman/Froehlich Reunion will be Sunday, September 5, 2004, at the Charles Murray Brooking Park Concession Barn on US 25 North, just outside Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky. The reunion is for the descendants of John & Catherina Froehlich and Charles Hoffman. The building will be open at 10:00 am for those who choose to come early. It is air conditioned, wheel chair accessible and a vehicle can pull up to the door. There is plenty of seating, a full kitchen with coolers for cold food and drinks. The meal will be potluck. Drinks and utensils will be provided. Donations will be taken to cover the rental of the building and the supplies. You may bring any item you wish to donate to the drawing for prizes. Please bring any old pictures and family histories you may be working on for others to see. Last year, everyone did not get around to see all the items others had, so bring them again even if you brought them before. If you have questions, please email me and I will try to get the answers for you. Thanks for posting this. Hello List Member's, It is with deep sorrow that I write to you today to let you know of one of our fellow list member's passing. I am sure that you read the e-mail from her daughter Ruth that was posted yesterday. Margaret Rose FROELICH Green passed away on March 19th. She was a wonderful asset to our little list and was one of the original members when this list was started. She will be deeply missed. God Speed Margaret Rose and Thank You So Much for all you have done for the world of genealogy. Shirley
Shirley, my mom, Margaret Rose FROELICH Green, was a member of this list since I just now found the e-mail that was sent to her address. She took ill last fall and passed away this March 19th after being diagnosed with terminal cancer a month prior. I have been clearing out her e-mail box until my brother can be given lessons on how to do e-mail. I was wondering if you could remove this e-mail address from your list. She was the genealogist of the family, and my brother and I do not have the time to devote to doing a lot of research. Thank you, Ruth M. Obtaining Military Records Online http://www.archives.gov/research_room/vetrecs/ It is now possible for veterans and family members of deceased veterans to obtain copies of DD-214's online. To obtain a DD-214, go to the National Personnel Records Center's Website. You can also go online to order the DD-214's via mail or fax. You can obtain your DD-214 by filling out Standard Form 180, which can be downloaded from the Forms page. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records center's mailroom processing time. Veterans and next of kin may access this application at this page. For more on requesting and replacing military records, see Replacing Military Records. Folks, This is Very Good Advice. Please Read Shirley == List Mom Why see your life's work and interest go to the dump. The editor of the publication listed below was asked what one might do if there is no family interested in research we might leave behind. Society, Cleveland OH: A Genealogical Codicil to My Last Will and Testament To my spouse, children, or guardian. Upon my demise it is requested that you DO NOT dispose of any or all of my Genealogical records, books, files, notebooks or computer programs for a period of two years. In the event you do not find anyone to accept these materials, please contact the various genealogical organizations that I have been a member of and determine if they will accept some parts or all of my genealogical materials. Hello List Members! This list has been very quiet lately! Please lets get posting once again. We have had many new members to join, let them know your heritage, let them know who you are searching for. If you have already posted your lineage or the people you are seeking, post it once again. You never know if someone new has joined the list that possibly knows of whom you seek! Also take note!: If you have previously posted to the list on an old address, you should re-post it again using your new address so that other list members can easily write back to you with what they know! A FEW TIPS FOR POSTING TO THE LIST: 1. Always put your ancestors surname in CAPITAL letters! 2. Always put your ancestors surname in the subject line. 3. Add to your post any dates and locations you may have for that/those persons. 4. Always post any new information you come accross to the list even if it does not particulary pertain to your direct line. *This may be the way someone else is able to link to your lineage!!!* 5. If you should happen to come accross a website that pertains ONLY to genealogy that you feel may help fellow seekers You may post it to the list. 6. Always post your source of information, be it birth / death certificates, baptismal certificates, news paper aritcles, court house records, census records, URL's, family lore, bible entries, etc.... THE DONT'S OF POSTING!: 1. Never post Spam Mail, Rude Comments or Suggestions, Arguments, Jokes, Chain Letters or any other type of post other than genealogy related. 2. Keep the list clean! Please let me stress the dont's of the list, it could mean that you would be un subscribed or banned from the list for not following the rules.
