Published in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from Aug. 30 to Aug. 31, 2018 JOHN FRISCH Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania FRISCH JOHN "JACK" Age 85, of South Park, formerly of Whitehall, went to be with his Lord, Thursday August 16, 2018, at Family Hospice and Palliative Care. Beloved husband of 63 years to Rosemarie A.; loving father Cherie (Robert) Fitzpatrick, Debbie (Dr. Robert) Bittel and Dennis (Sherry) Frisch; proud "Bupp" of Shawn (Cate) Fitzpatrick, Dr. Matthew (Cindy) Bittel, Jennifer Bittel, Dr. Douglas Bittel, Dana (Mark) Thomas and Chad, Courtney and Chelsey Frisch; great "Bupp" to Luke, Ethan and Asher Bittel; brother of Dolores Eiben and the late Mary Grace Warwick; also survived by nieces, cousins and friends. While at Duquesne University, Jack was in the ROTC and then graduated with a business degree. After graduation, he was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force and served as a navigator in the Air National Guard for 23 years, retiring with the rank of Colonel. During this time, Jack traveled the world and made life-long friends. His most prized business success began in 1948 when Rose's father opened Carrick Poultry. In 1958, Jack and Rose purchased Carrick Poultry from her father. In 1963, when broasted chicken originated, Jack started what would become his famous broasted chicken. Fresh poultry, seafood, and broasted chicken created the foundation to build a strong family business. It was a family affair, in which Rose and the kids spent their fair share of time working at the store, and eventually grandchildren as well. Jack was the former owner of Frisch's of Caste Village and co-owner of Chicken Derby in Pleasant Hills. He passed down the family business to his son, Dennis, so he could begin "retirement." However, due to his work ethic and needing to stay busy, you could always find Jack at the store. Jack treasured time with his family and they skied every weekend at Seven Springs or traveled to other states to enjoy the slopes. Not only did Jack travel the world with the Air Force, he and Rose also traveled for leisure. Just a few places they explored together include Germany, Italy, Tahiti, and Hawaii. Jack and Rose learned to play golf later in life and spent much of their time on the golf course at South Hills Country Club. Through their travels, they fell in love with Hilton Head Island, S.C. and would spend weeks at a time there enjoying the beaches and golf courses with friends. For their 50th wedding anniversary, Jack and Rose, their three kids, and eight grandkids celebrated on HHI together for a week. Jack enjoyed spending time floating around in the pool, "Raising the Jolly Roger" for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and making the most out of life with his family and friends. Jack had a bigger than life personality and so many people had the opportunity to know and love him. Jack was willing to do anything for his family and friends. Jack and Rose were members of St. Elizabeth Parish for 52 years. Friends will be received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15227, on Sunday, from 4-8 p.m. and Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Prayer on Tuesday morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church at 10 a.m. If desired, family suggests contributions to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
