    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bethrau1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.frisch/232.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Please keep in mind that many records, especially census records, commonly have mistakes in them. In 1920 I find Susie and Benjamin in Meade County, South Dakota, and by 1930 they are in Iowa. In 1920, Susie states she is 36 years old and entered the U.S. in 1892. With a birth date of about 1884, that would mean she entered the U.S. at age 8, leading me to believe she came with family. In 1930, Susy [sic] is listed as age 49 and states she was 30 at the time of her first marriage. Born in Luxembourg, her native tongue is listed as German. Ben is listed in the 1910 West, Meade County, South Dakota census. Your grandmother is in nearby Sturgis, Meade County: FRISCH, Sussie [sic] servant, age 27, single, born Germany, doing general house work. I don't find an immigration record for Susan under any variation of spellings for her first and last name. I don't find her in the 1900 U.S. census. The closest I can find is a woman named Susan Frisch, about 1870 in Minnesota to parents born in Luxembourg. There are Meade County land records for Susie Frisch in March of 1912, so I believe the marriage must have taken place soon after. My suggestion is for you to send for their marriage record from Meade County, South Dakota, to see whether family information is listed for Susan, or perhaps a birth town. Here is the link to the volunteer-run Meade County, SD, genweb site. There you will find a lookup volunteer who may be able to find more records for you. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sdmeade/ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Especially when and where Susan was born, when she came to the U.S. and when she married your grandfather. Do you have obituaries for your grandparents? Do you subscribe to Ancestry.com and have their census records? If you add more information it would help volunteers look for information for you. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cascarson Surnames: Frish/Frisch Heuer Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.frisch/232/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Susie was a run-a-way bride who wasn't interested in being married to the older land owner next door. Took off for the states and met my grandfather (Benjamin Frederick Heuer) while she was out homesteading alone in the Dakota territories. Dropped out of the wagon train when she found land that looked like home...(Luxembourg) where her family were wealthy landowners and merchants...and into making, designing and decorating china. I have one lovely, small plate (pastel blue flowers)... with the inscription New Palisse on a rough back that was supposed to be about the only thing she brought with her when she ran off after the unwanted marraige. She was well educated, could read and write in several languages. We heard that she was probably disowned after the family sent searchers stateside to find her and she refused to be found and carted back home. Any information on Susie/Susan from the old country would be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: momzantroo Surnames: Hein Schebler Frisch Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.frisch/172.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Big oops, -- your grandfather should be Paul Schebler, not Richard Hein That's what I get from going off my memory, especially late at night after being on hiatus from genealogy for a few months. This also is a 'new to me' family, since we've only been married a few years. Although I'm not new to genealogy, I just started on my husband's family last October. I'm so sorry if I threw you off. I knew Pauline married a Hein and her sister married his brother, but I obviously got confused when typing my previous post. Pauline married Richard and Mary married Ed. Clyde adopted Gerald Richard after marrying Pauline. Was Paul an engraver like Great Uncle Jack? Since Emma is your maternal grandmother, your mother's name should start with a G (unless she had other children from a different marriage that I'm not aware of yet). I won't give too much detail here due to privacy concerns. Looking forward to hearing from you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
