If I understand the NJ History in colonial times, East Jersey was settled by the Dutch and West Jersey settled by the Quakers (mostly English). The significance is that Joseph FRENCH, Sr. (1698-1752), although of English Quaker extraction, was of East Jersey (Shrewsbury Meeting) in 1736. As has been pointed out, he was in Dutch country. The Dutch kept great records, so maybe something will turn up in that arena. Best, Hugh
