I remembered that there was a James French with Samuel, Sr. in the tax list of Anson Co., NC about 1765 who didn't appear in Rutherford Co., NC when Samuel moved there. And an entry in the court minutes that I found and posted to the list back in 1998. It is below. NC July 1787 Ordered by the court that the Sheriff take into possession, the children of James and Mary FRENCH (to wit) William, Joseph, Caty, Susannah and Annah FRENCH, that the court may have them bound out. My first question is, does anyone know exactly what this means? Are the parents dead, and have the children become wards of the court? Second question, does anyone know who this James and Mary are? Do you recognize the names of the children? My Samuel FRENCH who was in Anson Co. NC with a James FRENCH, moved to Rutherford Co. NC by 1786.
