    1. RE: [FRENCH-L] John FRENCH, died in 1713 at Woodbridge, Middlesex County, NJ
    2. The IGI information may be in error. Based on information found in a document of East Jersey Deed records, dated 12 Dec, 1687, John French, mason, and wife, Susanna, are from Staten Island. There are 3 separate entries for this date and it appears he was setting up his affairs in Staten Island, where he was selling his property, in preparation for a move to East Jersey. He sold a Staten Island property to Peter Dassigney of Woodbridge, surgeon, and also gave him power of attorney for the management of his affairs on Staten Island. -----Original Message----- From: J. Michael Frost [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, July 25, 2004 1:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [FRENCH-L] John FRENCH, died in 1713 at Woodbridge, Middlesex County, NJ According to the IGI, the John FRENCH who was in Woodbridge, Middlesex County, NJ as early as 1670, and who died there in 1713, was the same person as the John FRENCH who was the son of Thomas and Sara FRENCH, and who was born in 1651 in Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire, England. Is the IGI correct? If so, what is the proof of this relationship?

    3. The following information from the will of John French gives information about this family: Page: 173 Name: John French Date: 31 Jan 1711-2 Location: Woodbridge, Middlesex Co. Calendar of New Jersey Wills, Vol. I 1670-1730. Part I Calendar of New Jersey Wills. bricklayer; will of. Wife Sussannah. Children--Ann, wife of James Leith, who is made executor, and Richard. Real and personal estate. Witnesses--Thomas Collyer, Tho: Pike. Proved 20 Mar 1713. Calendar of New Jersey Wills, Vol. I 1670-1730. Part I Calendar of New Jersey Wills. Lib. 1, p. 401 Following from Colonial History of the State of New Jersey, Calendar of New Jersey Wills Vol 1 - 1670 - 1730. page 173 - 174. 1711-2 Jan. 31. French John of Woodbridge, Middlesex County, Bricklayer; will of Wife - Sussannah. Children - Ann (wife of James Leith), Richard. Executor: James Leith. Real and personal estate. Witnesses - Thomas Collyer, Thomas Pike. Proved March 20 1713 Lib. 1, P. 401 Information in the book State Of New Jersey page 611 lists John, born 1651 as son of Thomas and Sara. Information in "Aaron French and His Descendants" by Charles Newton French on page 7 lists a son John who lived in Middlesex County as late as 1721 as a son of John and Susannah. There is no other evidence that this is true. No documents support the claim that John was a son of John and Susannah. The following information gives more info that points to John French as the son of Thomas and Sara French. Information submitted by James K. French of New York in WJ9S-X3 lists Thomas French AFN: GK6J-VX and Sara Wood AFN: GK6J-W4 as parents of John. Information from Charles Newton French says John is the brother of Thomas French/Jane Adkins. 1. Charles Newton French gives some hypotheses on the lineage of several unknown New Jersey Frenches. Thomas (A) b. Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire, England Thomas (1) m. Jane Atkins Thomas (2) m. Mary Allen Joseph (3) of Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co., NJ Joseph (4) who m. Hannah Horn in 1749 Francis (4) of New Gretna, NJ Aaron (4) b. 1739, d. 1905 in PA Charles believed the line to be: Thomas (A); Thomas (1); Thomas (2) and Mary Allen; Joseph (3) of Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co;. and son Joseph (4) who m. Hannah Horn in 1749 and to include Francis (4) of New Gretna, NJ, and also son Aaron French (4), b. 1739, d. 1905 in PA. Charles writes about Aaron, and we quote: "It is said that he had two or more brothers, one of whom removed to NY, and another went south. The compiler believes that the latter was Francis of New Gretna, in south NJ [near Little Egg Harbor, and that Aaron and Francis were sons of Joseph of Shrewsbury], however, Aaron may have been son or grandson of John of Middlesex Co., whose descendant, unlike those of Richard, the other son of John of Woodbridge, have not been traced." (John of Woodbridge was the brother of Thomas (1) and Jane Atkins, Chart #20). Charles Newton French says the descendants of John (1), and Richard (2) have been traced. Does anyone know where? The information above gives more information that John is more than like a son of Thomas and Sara French. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 25, 2004 3:15 PM Subject: RE: [FRENCH-L] John FRENCH, died in 1713 at Woodbridge, Middlesex County, NJ > The IGI information may be in error. > > Based on information found in a document of East Jersey Deed records, dated > 12 Dec, 1687, John French, mason, and wife, Susanna, are from Staten Island. > There are 3 separate entries for this date and it appears he was setting up > his affairs in Staten Island, where he was selling his property, in > preparation for a move to East Jersey.
