David, Thank you for your reply. Daniel French came to the Great Swamp, NC after arranging a contract with the Pontell's (who owned the land) in Philadelphia in December 1806. Daniel, in New Haven, was deeply in debt and setting up a shingle mill in NC was his attempt to pay those debts. The attempt was a total failure and Daniel returned to New Have., CT There is no "line" for Daniel French. Despite years of search the most I have found is his parents: Daniel, Sr., (1746-1784) and Eunice Hubbard (1746-1831) French were married in Kensington Parish (Berlin) CT 20 May 1765. Daniel Sr. was born in CT as nearly as I can find. Daniel Jr., is listed in the 1790 CT Census as head of a household of five females. A suggestion of brother(s), without a name, has led nowhere. Daniel Jr., lived, worked, and invented in CT, NY, PA and IN. Daniel Jr, married Sarah (unknown), no records available. Daniel Jr., son's: William, George and Henry built steamboats at Jeffersonville, Clark Co., IN 1829-1865. A search of French descendants in IN has led nowhere. Maybe I haven't tried hard enough; would be glad of any assistance. Al.
