All these discussions on the French mailing list has encouraged me to post my query for assistance once more. I'm sure there is someone out there listening in who comes from the same line and may have information which could help me get past my "brick wall". John J. French was born July 22, 1788 in New York. Some census records indicate he was born in New Hampshire or Vermont. His obituary said New York. In some records, his middle initial is a "T" or an "I". He married a MARY ACKERMAN (born March 4, 1792 in New York) on June 22, 1808 in New York. I have not found this marriage record. In 1810, he joined the Masonic Order in NYC. He served in the War of 1812. In 1817, he and his wife and one son, JEFFERSON A. FRENCH, left New York for southern Indiana. They settled in Dearborn county and were listed in census records living in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn, Indiana, until about 1830. At that time they relocated to near Rising Sun, Indiana. At that time, it was in Dearborn county, but later was in Ohio county when it was formed from Dearborn. John French was a fairly well to do farmer. He was a member of the M.E. Church where he was baptized in 1839. He died on April 23, 1874. He and Mary had a large family. Those which I have identified are as follows: Jefferson A. ( served in Civil War); William; Indiana; George Washington; John S.; Lafayette Porter; James; Mary; Loring; and at least two unknown daughters. I know this is a long winded message, but I am hoping that someone out there might recognize something and provide some information which will help me identify my French branch. Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate a male French from my line to participate in the DNA project. Thanks for any and all help. Richard Day ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith J.
