This may be the audit they did when Elizabeth, widow of Lafford FRENCH applied for a pension increase around 1850. They had to prove that Lafford served in the SC mounted militia since he had not declared any time spent in the SC Regiment of Roebucks & Thomas when he applied for his pension. Lafford did state he had served under Coln Thomas Sr & Cap't David McDowell though. And in 1854 Jane McMillan states that she saw Lafford FRENCH at the house of her father Cap't David McDowells and that he served with her father and brother in Roebucks & Thomas Regiment [SC]. Since they couldn't find a record of his service in NC as he had claimed, I wonder if he just forgot the area he was living in when he enrolled for service had been changed from NC to SC.
