Hugh, Remember, Joseph FRENCH was mentioned in an earlier deed as living on "branch of Pacolet" in what is shown as the Spartanburg, Union "counties" [see 1786-1791 map of SC]. This first property appears to be EAST of the property he purchased in 1790 in the Pendleton District and was not too far from the property Lafford was living on when he died in NC. This deed appears to be the Polk-Rutherford NC property where Laffert was living when he died. French, Lefford / French, John / Deed/ 39-40/309/ 1834 [date filed] Son John is living on a place in Spartanburg County in 1850 which is probably the general location of the 1773 Joseph FRENCH property. I think the area later known as Greenville County and Pendleton County was still considered Indian land prior to the Rev. War. =================================================== 1773 -- from: "Scotch-Irish Migration to South Carolina, 1772" Reproduced on Genealogy.com's Online Data Set #352 (Immigrants to America, 1600s-1800s).
