Jeremiah Clements his pattent for 200 acres of land, 10 Jan 1643. On the back side assgned as followeth, viz.: Know all men that I, Capt. Henerye Berry, doe assigne over this pattent to Wm. Gapinge and his heirs. Teste: Thos. Brereton. Wm. Gapinge assignes to Anthonye French, 25 Jan. 1658. Wit.: Jno. Gittings, Robt. Spencer. Rec.: 26 Jan. 1658. >From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Surry County was formed from a portion of James City County in the Royal Colony of Virginia in 1652. It was named for the English County of Surrey. It included all of James City County (itself formed in 1634) which was located south of the James River.
